The plastic-sleeved, non-marring lugnut sockets seem to come with an inner plastic sleeve to aid alignment and protect the wheel studs. But the ID of that sleeve seems to be 12mm and not fit our 14mm studs.

For those that use this tool, did you remove the inside plastic sleeve, or drill it out?

Save your dough. Just put tape around the outside of a standard socket.
What do you think I've been doing?
The tape doesn't last, because there isn't a lot of clearance with my socket.

Now back the the original question asked ...

I have a set that came with the outer sleeves but none of them have the inner sleeve. Looks to me like it’s easy enough to take a small Dremel tool and drill it out

Big drill bit might be faster

I was thinking one of the Dremel cutting discs. I’d be worried about damaging the inside of the socket with a large drill bit personally. If you end up hitting the inside of the socket, you could get little metal burrs and those will mess up your lug nuts. I’m probably overthinking it too, I’ve been known to do that 🤣

I personally self clearance the lug stud holes using a chunky impact socket. Now I never have clearance problems.

Truthfully if it’s my personal vehicle, I’d just get a lower profile chrome socket, crack them loose with it, then impact them out with that same socket. Not scraping your wheels just takes a little finesse.

can that sleeve be pressed from the anvil/ratchet end?

The picture says it's good for 22mm so I'm confused

Ignore the size. I chose that picture because it was the only one that showed the insert.

alternatively, find a 14mm or 5/8 drill bit and just drill some clearance into the sleeve.

Considered that too but don't have the bit.

Looks like knocking it out is best.

Knock it out, then drill it thru to fit your lug, re-install. Don't have a bit, buy one, use it , returned it. I know, underhanded, but it's just plastic, not 1/2 inch steel your drilling thru. Don't have a drill? Get your cheap ass to Harbor Freight:rockon:

I like this idea.

This idea, not so much. But that size of drill can be pricey.
