Hi All, sorry if there has been a topic created for this already. I would like to know if it is normal for S550 gear box to make a very loud like knocking sound when engaging the clutch. I have a video clip of the sound if I could upload it?

Not normal. Should be silent, basically.

Hope you get it worked out.

Thanks for a reply here is a short video of the sound.

Ford South Africa says this is a normal noise for the manual transmission.

I didn't think so, it's meant to make pretty much no noise right like any other manual transmission? I can see I'm going to be fighting with ford so much fun. Thanks for the help.

Ok what are you doing when that sound happens? Like clutch in and out?

Pretty much moving forward in 1st gear and then engaging the clutch faster than normal. It doesn't make that sound if you engage the clutch very slowly.

mine does that sometimes. never liked it but it didn't seem to do anything. I always figured it was normal, but mine isn't as repeatable as yours. For me it happens if I accidentally bog it down in 1st by not applying the gas enough and then push the clutch in to get it back

Mine also does that in 1st gear sometimes. It happens when I'm rolling at a slow speed and engage the clutch very quickly there will be a clunking sound.

When you push the clutch pedal down you're disengaging the torque from the motor and the gears and shafts in the tranny flop back and forth a bit.

I would say this is normal. My S550 does it too, when you step on the clutch fast in 1st gear.

I'd think that this is due to that the engine is still applying torque to the clutch and then you suddenly disconnect the engine and the clutch, making the clutch chatter a bit. But I might be wrong.

Thanks guys. I would think that it's normal then, I've spoken to a lot of mustangs owners now and most of them say their car makes that sound. Thanks for the help

I have that when I abrupt change gear and release clutch too fast.
