Hey all, I have a 2017 Mustang GT and the first thing I did was a JLT CAI with the Bama tuner and mail-order tune. I got it all through American Muscle with the free tunes for life. Well, I went to get the Gen 3 Intake Manifold for my can and asked about updating my tune and Bama said they don't support the Gen 3 manifold on anything prior to a 2018 model. Has anyone else run into this?

Looks like my options are to get either the GT350, Boss 302 or CobraJet manifolds to get my mail tune updated. I believe all of those would require a new throttle body and maybe a new CAI.

Interesting, does the spacer act like a reducer for the stock TB?

honest opinion, get the 18 mani and farm out your tune to someone else. talk to them about the handheld tuner you have and see if they support it, if they do then ask what they can do for you and just go that route and chalk up the 'free tuning for life' as lost coin.... just my .02

Thanks both for your replies. I'm going to look into both options and see what will work best. I gotta see what the install of the GT350 manifold looks like as I know there is some modification of vacuum lines and extending a wiring harness.

It's simple. You don't need to extend the wiring it will fit if you unwrap the harness. It is the wire that goes to the purge valve. The vacuum line is the one going to the brake booster. Not an issue really. The CMCV's are plug and play so is the TB if you use the linked adapter plate. The car will run like stock with this manifold and no tune.

Obviously a tune gives you more power than just the manifold.

I know of several published dyno's numbers that show the 18 manifold is superior to the 350 mani, but Ford puts the 350 manifold on the flagship cars. On the race tracks the cars with the 350 manifold are consistently faster then the 18 manifold.

The 18 will require vacuum line modifications also.

The Boss and CJ will require lowering of the engine and vacuum line mods. The CJ will need a TB and special CAI

I can send you pics of a properly installed GT350 manifold on a gen 2 if you want. I'll take close ups of the vacuum lines and tell you what they do.

Red is PCV

White goes to cai, I have it looped because I haven't decided on which cai I will run. This gives me enough hose to use all I have.

Green goes to the brake booster. This one is tricky because the ports are 2 different sizes. Easily solvable with an adapter from any parts store.

The hose on the CAI next to the white goes to the driverside valve cover

Thanks for the pic with the color coding. I’ll pop my hood tomorrow and compare.

If you look at my picture there is a 4 way valve with one port capped off. Your 17 will have the brake booster connected there.

So you remove the brake hose from it on the 17 mani and hook it to the manifold port on the 350. I marked it in green. As long as you got the vacuum lines with the 350 manifold, new ones come with them, that is the only real modification required.

I'll repost the pic and circle the 4 way valve. I also marked the wire that needs to be stretched. It goes to the purge valve.

Some people hook the booster to the 4 way valve and cap the manifold port. Ford does it the way I have it.

Great information, thanks for all that!! One last question. For street driving do you think it’s worth it to swap the manifold?
