Looking for an extremely aggressive R compound tire for street/track use - who has experience with either of these on the GT350?

The MPSS don't cut it on the track, I suppose 3 years of Pirelli Corsa R comps on my Boss 302 Laguna spoiled me because the MPSS grip was a joke in comparison (love them on the street however).

I just did a 3 day HPDE at Daytona and ran the Continental Contiforcecontact tires on R spec wheels. They were amazing. A very soft R compound that were $800 per set, they were a steal. Based upon a comparison, I believe I have about 3 more heavy track days left in that set.

I don't know if Tire Rack has any more, but I got an extra set with some spare rear tires. I'm glad I did. Those things rocked!

That's a great price, if it's an R comp at that price I would give it a shot. What size would fit stock GT350 wheels? I would like to go 305 all around....

I have 19x11 wheels in the front and 19x11.5 in the rear. The fronts run 305's and the rear 325's. IIRC, stock is 295's in the front on 19x10.5 wheels and 305's in the rear on 19x11 wheels.

I was extremely happy with the R spec wheels and the larger tire setup. Since you are using stock wheels, you may have to go with 295's in the front and 305's in the rear. However I think I have heard of others running 305 square. YMMV

PM me tomorrow and I will give you the salesman's contact info. Although they may show out of stock, this guy found me more tires when they were officially gone.

The R888r is brand new in the US and essentially the replacement of the R888. The R888 is a good tire, and the R888r is touted to be a bit better. The verdict is out on those because they're so new. I have a lot of experience with a variety of tires on track from dedicated streets to slicks, and the Cup2s are very hard to beat. Their versatility allows you to drive to and from the track, they offer near slick-level grip (notably better than the R888), and they are a few pounds lighter. They are just a better engineered tire than the majority of others out there. The price has come down compared to what they originally went for, and they are worth the extra money in my humble opinion.

Can you get Bridgestone RE-71R in your sizes? Not sure. People are hard on for that cheater 200TW tire (it is not really a 200 TW... acts much stickier than that, even).

Sport Cup 2's would be my choice personally. Seem to be by and large the greatest on-track performance tire currently sold according to many reviews, and the fact that they are appreciably lighter than competitors tires is icing on the cake, saving weight right where it matters most.

Do the sport cup 2s come in 325 for the rear? Or is the largest the 315 like on the R?

Not to go off topic but how many track days can you expect off these tires?

It's very dependent on your driving style, the track you drive and its surface, tire pressure, and your alignment specs. If your alignment and pressures are right on a track with a good surface, I would expect about 6 days for the average driver.

RE-71R is what I'm going with after debating with NT01 and R888R. Same performance, if not better, and should last longer.

For people asking about wear, with these tires they may heat cycle out before the tread is worn - and lose their grip. Something to keep in mind as well.

For sizing, I'm going 305 square and getting an extra set of OEM rear wheels to run on the front with a spacer. That way I can rotate them easily.

Working on my track budget for next year thanks.

I figure my tires are half shot at 3 track days of 4 events each day for 30 minutes each session.

So six track days give or take depending on the event, duration. and your style of driving.

You can get them much bigger, up to 345 I believe, but not in the specific compound developed for the R. The specific tire for the R is more in line in regards to the compound as what was developed for the Z07 Z06 and GT3RS. Significantly grippier and softer than the standard Cup 2 from what I've read. You'd be better off with an GT350R spec 315 than a standard spec 325 IMO.
