Is this whole procedure for checking the shifter collar and the O-rings doable for a novice inside the car without taking anything apart that cannot be put back together easily? I've had this vibration in the upper reaches of 1st gear and mid-to-high RPM 2nd gear since the instant I got my car. 100% reducible by pushing the shifter firmly to the right when in 2nd. I want to try this on my own rather than taking it to the dealer but don't want to get in over my head.
I like others have this same sound. And like Blue, I'm not knowledgeable nor have place to do the skunk works above. Would a dealer be willing to do such a check.

I am dropping mine at the dealer tomorrow morning and will report back. Service advisor got a quick demo ride with me tonight and noticed the rattle immediately, so I think they understand to examine this first.

My dealer installed an entire new shifter assembly, PN 7210-D. I was told there was a new design. It improved the rattle by I'd say 80%, which is very very nice. Also seemed to tighten everything up about the shifter movement. Had a little trouble getting into first right at the beginning, but otherwise since it's an improvement. I recommend letting your dealer change it if you have the same issue.

Bump--

Anyone have recent news/experience with second gear rattle. Have a dealer appointment for Tuesday to look at that and a few other items. Any updates appreciated.

Mine rattles/vibrates. If I pill up on the reverse lock out the vibration disappears.

Yes cars rattle ...but this is a bit annoying.

Dealer replaced mine yesterday. The noise is gone and it indeed shifts better. Ford revised the design last spring. I may be imagining this but the throw seems slightly shorter. What I'm not imagining is that it feels more precise. The first thing the mechanic told me as he rolled up was "this shifter is tighter."

Bump.

I have this problem on my 2017 late september build. I definitely must have the updated shifter if it was renewed in spring so I m guessing issue is back or maybe its not as bad as it was before?

- People who had their shifter replaced, do you still have some noise?
- Does anyone have a video of what the rattle sounded like before?

Guys, just do yourselves all a favor and get a MGW shifter! Eliminates all the faults of the factory shifter. Epiphany can attest.

My rattle came back within a couple months but I don't care too much about it anymore. Poor design in any case.

I certainly want the MGW eventually but haven't had a good chance/reason to head to GA if they can install it.

It's not that hard of an install. There's an install video you can watch to get a feel for it.

Hi,

I have the same issue, which started at around 8000kms and is now very noticeable in 2nd gear, above 4kRPM.
This is not a "normal" vibration but rather an annoying rattle (my S2000 used to vibrate at 9kRPM but no rattle).

Obviously interested if that can be easily fixed

It's a red one.

Yep, they replaced the shifter assembly for me at the dealer. It really fixed the problem! For about 5000km :D Now it is back the same or worst :D

My solution is that you get used to it.

I have this rattle as well and am debating to have it go in for a new shifter or get the MGW a few buddies of mine have them and love it.

Reviving this thread from 2016, I just noticed the same very loud vibration on second gear, above 3-4K RPM, while the engine is under load or even when not on load. Third or other gears seem to be unaffected. I do not rest my hand on gear lever. Car is at ~2700 miles. No track time - road use.

It sounds just like "the car did not go into gear" noise, obviously the gear is engaged and car is moving along but vibration makes me cringe.

What are my options here? I can take the gear lever out and check rings but that's the limit of my mechanical options at home. Is my only choice a dealer visit - possible change of gear assembly? That makes me cringe as well.

Also, I noticed Auto Fanatic has a video to fix gear lever vibrations. Is this he same vibration-issue he is fixing??? - I couldn't tell.

Thank you,
