Saved up my paper route money and 10 days after turning 16 I bought one of my dream cars in 1981. For $950 I bought a 1976 white with blue stripe (farrah car) Cobra II.
That you can not pull this off today ( or since say born after 1980ish) is in a nut shell epitomizes everything wrong with modern America and the automotive ecosystem.

This is strange thing to say. I was born in 1966.
Sorry I think I didn't phrase it properly. That you can not today repeat what you did, is what is wrong with modern America. Fixing my post.

it ended up getting totalled by a nice lady in a mercedes. this is where i really came to appreciate what mustangs were about.

for years i had no cool car because i got married and was a sensible person.
then i decided to build a cobra. it was done to the 9's but ended up being a lot more racecar than GT car...

so, in an effort to be more sensible, i sold that and my truck to get this

I blame it on my parents.

When I was born, my parents had a near-new '67 fastback, blue on blue with the 289-4V and auto. They tried to struggle along cramming me into the back of the thing at first, but apparently practicality won out and it was sacrificed for a white on blue '68 Fairlane wagon. I have vague recollections of the wagon, but none of the Mustang. However, I have an old color photo of it on the bulletin board in my shop. Too bad they didn't keep it, I might have it yet today.

Maybe something about that car burrowed into my psyche as a baby....

You probably spent quality time being led to sleep to the sonorous vibe of the motor. Not a few parents learn this trick. That and rubbing the gums with a finger dipped in scotch.

Three years ago, a Coworker offered to sell me his used 2006 GT with brembos and a second set of tires for 5K. Spent the last 2 years regretting not jumping on the offer. Brother baught an M2 and I had a YOLO moment. He made me realize I need to go beyond the 4 cylinder family car. Rest is history.

Well, you went to look at cars, and you've looked at that Mustang a lot since then, haven't you? 😁
of course since I was little I always wanted a one. Never cared for the fire birds, Camaros or corvettes.

...So I don't know if I should mention that one reason I bought a Mustang is
no one is making Firebirds any more. 😅

I was looking at sleek, pointy Firebirds for sale (among other things) and ultimately thought "No, I want a NEW car". So I got a Mustang with a warranty rather than a 30-year-old car with 1980s GM ergonomics.

2003, I got a Nintendo Gamecube for Christmas along with a copy of NFS: Hot Pursuit 2. I am pretty sure I played that game so much that the Stat for Time Played was maxed out at 999 hrs.

In it, was the Ford Mustang SVT Cobra R, and a narrator would describe the car as it spun around (first 20s of this video)
(143) NFS Hot Pursuit 2 - Ford SVT Mustang Cobra R - YouTube

That is when I got hooked lol. I have a bunch of books, posters and other stuff mustang related. Got my first mustang in 2017, 2012 V6. Upgraded a year later to a 2015 GT. Sold it when my daughter was born, but then jumped into a 2003 Terminator Vert, my dream. Unfortunately, someone cut me off and that car was totalled a month into owning it. Jumped into a 2016 GT350 now.

Even in the short time I had the terminator, I spent two or so weeks painstakingly recreating the window sticker and original SVT certificate as close as I could with fonts, spacing, colors and signatures since I didn't have the originals. I even contacted the company who made the original SVT certificate paper, to get the exact paper with blue border for a printed copy. One day I want to be back in a terminator, the SVT Cobra was the one that started the addiction for sure.

And just for fun, an alternate reality where my GT350 was still under SVT and not Ford Performance

In my sophomore year of high school, 1986, there was this girl and she liked Mustangs. I was a nerd and there's no way she's going to go for me but my genius mind thought that if I'd buy a Mustang then maybe I'd have a shot. So the search started. Wasn't long before I found this '66 notchback for 850 bucks. It was in great shape and came with two quarter skins to replace the bondo filled quarters. Since I had saved all my money for years of mowing the neighborhood yards, 850 was no problem.

Long story short, bought the car, got the girl, and fell in love.........with the Mustang

Ever since, there's always been a Mustang in my life, one way or another!

My first Mustang was a 1966 that I inherited from my dad when I was 16. Since then I have owned a 1977 Ford Mustang II (worst Mustang ever), as well as a 1995 v6, and a 1999 GT Convertible Anniversary edition. My latest Mustang is a 2019 GT Premium Convertible. I started with a Mustang and I'll end with a Mustang. My next Mustang just has to be a GT350 or GT500.
