Painting the R wheels..Question

Im not sure how hot a wheel gets to have them baked when "powder-coating them." Is the R wheel powered coated?, or just painted? I read somewhere that the finish on the R wheel is Very Durable. I was wondering what the best way would be to change them to Silver....but keep the durability. I have powder-coated wheels in the past with great success, but not so with painting them. Every rock, chips the paint off....any ideas? :cheers:

Powder coating would be too hot and might harm the composite. You can have them professionally painted with a two part catalyst paint next best thing to powder.

Really? I never heard of 2 part catalyst paint...who can do this type of painting, and is that what Ford is doing? thanks

I'm not sure powder coating the wheels would work. I don't think you could electrically charge carbon fiber so the powder sticks to it. I may be wrong though.

2 part catalyst is like what they use for calipers

400 degrees F for 30 minutes, if you can charge the wheel, I don't think its (powder coat) a good idea.

^^^ thanks guys....I will l try the 2 part catalyst ...if I decide to go down this route. Im not really a black wheels kind of guy...don't like it on "cop cars" and on my sports cars. Oh well..this is what make the world go round.

I'd be willing to swap wheels and tires so that you could powder coat the aluminum wheels safely... I'd do that to, err... I mean for you. ;)

I was wondering this as well. With carbon fiber that's been painted, what needs to be done to prep it for repaint? Anyone know?

With your car colour, I bet it will look better with black, than any other colour.

It can probably be done, but probably cheaper just to buy a second set of wheels. And nice ones at that, not some AM knockoffs

From what I understand its just a ceramic band on the inside if the wheel closest to the brake caliper....not the outside...
I was not going to paint the inside of the wheel just the outside...just want it to be durable.:cheers:
