Just got my weekly update on my 17R (UMH of course, if you can call that an update :frusty: ).

I had inquired about an 18R (esp with rumors of DCT or perhaps the unexplained Voodoo update from UAW contract). I managed to get the only 16 and 17 R allocation from my dealer, so I was hopeful to get their 18 if there were improvements. Really wanted a newer gearbox.

He would not engage with me on that topic (even to put me on a waiting list cuz they require a deposit) until he heard about availability.

Here is his quote/rumor today:

Greetings My Friend
First the disclaimers: nothing official and nothing in writing. The GT-350 and R cars will not be offered in 2018 as their replacements are in final testing.

I offer it up for what it is...just unconfirmed info for your cogitation. :ford:

Hmmm... "their replacements"... very, very interesting.

I look at this two ways:
1) "Bugoff man! It's too early to be starting this crap again!"

Or

2) "Hey, forget that old techno 350... have you seen the new GT4? We got some new stuff coming so just hold your panties up and be patient."

Hope this helps. Lol.

Maybe I'm reading this a bit strictly.

You went in with a presumption of what might happen in 2018 when many indicators don't say there will be Shelby GT350 available, except some secondary reports about FPC availability, got a response that didn't match your world view, and are surprised it might not be accurate?

You might want to check your chain of assumptions just getting to where you asked for a 2018 GT350.

Should be a great discussion though ;) Everyone loves a rumor.

Yes, it is Carl.

I follow all the rumors and reports here like many others. Was always disappointed in the manual gearbox and was hopeful that some of the rumors might be true. I never lose sleep over it. Just offer up what I hear for fodder, as everyone else here does also.

You can conclude whatever you wish. I suspect we will know something later this month at the LA auto show. I assume that's where Ford would make a first announcement if there are changes. Time will tell the truth. :ninja:

With respect to the 2 passenger R models for the 2016/2017MY if we look at Ford's history over the decades when it comes to 2 passenger Mustangs they have never produced a 2 passenger Mustang more than 2 years so based on that I suggest that they may not build a 2018 R model.

The '65 R models were a 1 year production run and then in 2000 the Cobra R was only a 1 year production run.

Of course if you want to include the Ford GT cars that came out a decade or so ago they ended up with only a 2 year run in 2005 and 2006.

Most recently the Boss 302 Laguna Seca's were also only a 2 year run for the 2012 and 2013MY.

Will Ford history continue to repeat its, only a very few select people at Ford presently know the answer that question?

Some reason you left out the 93 and 95 R models? Also single year Rs. ;)

If ford doesn't pull their asses out of the VERY poor sales "fire" that is happening with the company, the bean counters will start cutting any unprofitable cars/projects that exist. Seen it before, will see it again.

Unfortunately I was one of those guys and I purchased a brand new 1974 Mustang II Mach 1 with a V6 for power.

As most of everyone already knows the '74 Mustang was the only MY in the history of Mustang to not have a V8 available for the Mustang.:frusty::frusty:

Thanks for the memories!!

:thumbsup::thumbsup:
