Surprised to see how well the Mustangs hang with and in some cases dominate the othe Marques.

What are they running in these cars motor and suspension wise?

I would rather watch touring masters series That is either a eu or uk/ down under racing series. We need something like that here.

Surely you know that ALL these cars are running similarly modified cars/chassis/motors? I doubt anyone is taking their street Porsche to these races.

They are now running what is called the GT4 spec Mustang...this is about the 6th year for the GT4 in racing. GT4 is an FIA class designation with it's own set of specifications. They are cars that come off the manufacturer assembly line as a completed body shell only and then go to an outside car building company ( in Ford's case they go to a company called Multimatic in Canada ) where all the body seams are completely welded, roll cage installed, front suspension, part of the driveline, etc before going to each race team as a rolling chassis. They are never VINed and can't be street driven. Starting next year 2024, Ford Mustangs will also be built to compete in the FIA GT3 class....a big step above the GT4 class....with a bespoke tube frame chassis and sheet metal covering to make it into a Mustang...also being built by Multimatic....to race in the GT3 class...which is actually called GTD in IMSA, where they will race against the Corvettes, and cars from Aston Martin, Ferrari, Lamborghini, Lexus, Mercedes - AMG, Porsche, etc. The GTD GT3 cars have more horsepower, better suspension, brakes, steering and are considerably faster and more nimble than the GT4 spec cars. The GT3 GTD cars will run a full schedule and will compete in races like the 24 hours of Daytona, 12 hours of Sebring and other long endurance races....such as the 24 hours of LeMans. Just like the Ford GT did for 4 years...winning the 24 Hours of LeMans in 2016 and then only competing through the 2019 racing season before retiring all the Ford backed cars. So...starting next year, we have Mustangs in both the GT4 spec and GT3 spec to watch and cheer for.

January 25 2023 mustang GT4 in the garage at Daytona. Yep my wife and I were there and have been going for over 35 years. Next year will be spectacular with the GT3 mustang running against the best sports cars in the world. Ford will also return to Le Mans to race against Ferrari again…..this time with a mustang. How exciting is that guys and gals.

The mustang GT4 won the 4 hour race on Friday in a grid of over 34 sports cars. Nice going Ford !

What is it like to go to one of these races? Do you show up for the start then hang around for a while, then go to your hotel and come back for the finshed? Or do you find a place in the stands and take a nap.

I thought the car/event in question was NASCAR, in which there is a "Mustang" racing that is a Mustang in name only.
