I did three sessions yesterday with iTrack Motorsports at Talladega Gran Prix Raceway. This is a smallish 1.4 mile road course designed primarily
for motorcycle roadracing and limited automobile usage. I was able to use 3rd gear most of the time occasionally shifting to 4th in three sections.

The was the first time I have run this track since it had been reconfigured. Heck, the last time I even ran it was over 15 years ago! I'll say that was I pretty "rusty" but this car is extremely easy to drive fast. I used the "TRACK" mode in all three sessions. The more laps I put on the car, the more my confidence level behind the wheel increased. By the third session I was running a 7.5 on a 1-10 scale. For most of us, 9/10ths would be pushing too hard for a HPDE.

I learned several things:

1. These brakes really are NO JOKE. I never even came close to finding their limit. Even still after only three sessions, there was brake dust in the door jams. ;)

2. If you go from 3rd to 4th for even just an instant, the car will accelerate (doh!) like a beast! Reference back to #1.

3. Don't run the car with less than 1/3 tank of fuel. Turn one at this track is a fast left corner with decent banking. I hit this corner fast enough to slosh fuel away from the pick up and the car sputtered and acted like it was running out of gas (actually it did for an instant).

I've got some video from the top of the rear window. I was hoping to get the glorious exhaust note, but the wind noise was way too loud. I'll try to get this uploaded later today.

It was such a RUSH to be able to drive this car the way it was designed to be driven, HARD! If you bought this car and you don't intend to "track it", you are truly missing out.

EDIT: I wish I knew why the pics didn't upload with the correct orientation.

Yeah, definitely refill if you're at a 1/3rd. Besides sputtering, you'll kill your fuel pump if it's not covered by enough fuel to cool it on a routine basis.

^^^ I know better, but I wasn't paying attention to the fuel level.

Nice! Got you hooked again? :D

And yeah... I think for many technical tracks, 3rd and 4th gear is fine unless you really have to go down to 2nd due to low speed hairpin turns or lots of slow track traffic.

I started with the recommended 28 psi cold on the stock tires.

I have been tracking my '12 car at least once a year for the past several years. I intend to do way more with the Shelby. This is very addicting!!!

X 3 on the fuel level. I have made mine sputter under hard cornering three times now. I repeated the same turn and conditions to confirm it is starvation. .....and this was not on a track.

Question: If I upload video, how many would sit through 10+ minutes of hard driving? Would you rather I just post two laps or what?

EDIT:Highlights:

2:25ish a little "wiggle" coming out of turn 6
6:00ish pass a race prepped Miata
6:15ish here comes a badass little 350/370 full on race car with some sort of LS swap. We chases me down fairly quick under braking and in the corners. The straights... Well, 5.2 > his LS
6:50ish the 350/370 shows his passenger door slideways. He's in full on "chase" mode.
7:45ish I'm hold him him up, I give him the point by
8:05ish I was given the point by another race prepped car. S2000 maybe.
9:15ish another pass
9:21ish the LS swapped 350/370 returns the favor and gives me a point by
11:00ish I over drove the corner and let the car drift to far to the outside. I managed to drop both right side tires off the track, over the curb and into the grass. Nice save if I do say so myself. Major "oopsy" of the day for me.
11:18ish can't let that rattle me. Find 2nd gear and get this puppy rolling again.
12:15ish No Fear using that curbing again!
