I'm looking at a 2016 Mustang GT that's being sold in Virginia but I live in California. It doesn't say whether it is compliant with California emissions or not. It only says Emissions LEV II. This was the case with nearly every 2016 Mustang that I saw. Are all 2016s now CA compliant?

From what I saw on my sticker it's a no cost option.

No.

They don't charge for it, but they only put CA emissions on a car being delivered to a dealer in a state that requires it (CA, OR, WA, RI, CT, ME, MD, MA, NJ, NY, PA).

Check under the hood of your/a buddies current car. All modern cars are sold as CA emissions compliant. Easier and cheaper for the mfg to sell cars that meet the most stringent emission regulations, than to try and make yet another option. Not to mention the headache it would create for owners. I had to school a Honda sales guy about it a few years back when looking at an Accord for my brother in CA.

This explains a lot. I was wondering why my 15 EB had CA emissions originally delivered to VA.

Lol, I was just worried and now I'm not. Bought my GT here in Reno NV, but they delivered it from a lot in CA. Had a moment and was thinking I got a CA emissions one when I shouldn't have.

So what is different physically between cars sold in those states and cars sold in the rest of the country?

And what happens if someone from those states buys a car from another state? Will Ford be installing said equipment so that they are now legal in their own state?

Pretty sure all cars are made to meet California emission now.

The difference back then was there would be extra vacuum lines to suck gas vapors from the intake to the EVAP canister as well as exhaust because of sunburned fuel needs to be recycled.

Why not just let Cali spin off and become a nation on its own? We have what, 10% of the Nations population already. Our economy would be one of the biggest in the world. We produce most of the fruits & veggys consumed innAmerica, so our trade balance would be pretty freaking good. And we have Silicon Valley too.

Why all this Cali bashing anyway? Last I heard we were all in this together . . .

Well... that'd be a tough California national debt and drought (for those exportable veggies) to stomach as a stand-alone country. :)

California-bashing is just state bashing... I'd like to give Wisconsin away because of the Packers. I'd like to give Idaho away because nobody knows where it is anyway. Etc., etc., just jokes.

Because of gun banning assholes like Gavin Newsome, CARB ruining everything from cars to spray paint to gas cans for the entire country, giving illegals driver's licenses and then trying to give them the ability to vote, valuing stupid fish in a stupid river over actually putting water where it needs to go, wating to make a stupid train that will be a subsidized waste of crap, and generally progressive solcialist bull crap...

That is just part of why.

I like my home town but hate this stupid assed state while being out voted 4 to 1 by liberal cess pools like Los Angeles and the Bay Area.

Wow! Such hostility, uglygun! Perhaps you should take a chill pill. Hostility like that will eat you up from the inside! Bad for your health!

Why don't we just get back to talking about our cars? That is what this forum is for. Marino asked a good question, one that I don't think has been answered with certainty yet.
