I have a 2015 GT that normally tops out about 207-209 degrees for cylinder head temps before it cools down to about 198-199 and today I noticed it get up to 217 in stop and go traffic. Normal or cause for concern? Car was running fine. By the way, I don't think I ever hear the cooling fan running in this car. Thanks.

Did you check you coolant level ? 217 is high for temperatures I think currently are in NH. They do loose fluid over time, open hood and take a look. Has to be between min and max when cold. Could be above max when engine is warm.

It's about 40 degrees. I checked coolant last weekend and all was good. Something to keep an eye on.

217 isnt out of the ordinary depending how bad the stop and go was. I see cht creap anywhere between 212 and 218 in bad traffic but if it's coming down fairly quick once you get moving it's fine. For reference, doesnt matter if it's in the 40s or 110s out here. I see temps like that if the stop and go is bad.

217 is about the time the fan kicks on when the a/c is off. Newer cars are set to run a little warmer for emissions reasons. Perfectly normal.

I’ve seen 217 or 218 max and then it comes down.

217* with the non PP radiator in the summer isn't unheard of.

It is a bit odd that it happened in the dead of winter, albeit it's been pretty mild in New England this year. Still though, that does seem a bit high.

For example, my PP car is struggling to get above 192-194* on most days, unless I hammer on it hard. I would check to make sure your coolant is topped off and that your fans come on. By 217* the fans are pretty much on full blast.

I filled the coolant to the max line yesterday when cold. Today it varied between 198-208 on the ride to work, which is about normal for my car. Like I said, I have had this car for almost 5 years and do not recall the fans ever coming on, at least that I could hear.

Check your fuses, it's possible one of your fans fuses blew and its only running on one.
Interesting. Quick reference to where they’re located?

Look at 29 and 31 under the hood. It should be the middle row.
I’ll check it out. I get 218 creep sometimes, usually knocks back down quick once the fans kick on high. Worth a check though.

Gotta wonder how accurate the temp is, too. I'm sure there's a few degrees variance here and there. Mine has gotten up between 210° and 220° if I've been driving for a while (everything is completely warmed up) and end up in a situation where the car has to sit for a few minutes. If I blast the heat the temp reading will drop down to about 207. Car nornally bounces between 200° to 203° when cruising, even during the winter, and only drops to 198 if the heater is on.
