Posted this in the CAI sticky, but haven't gotten any responses, so here goes:

Can anyone recommend a CAI that would work well with the BMC Black Mamba ram air kit? I love the look of the hood, but worry now I made the wrong choice by not planning out my complete air flow with the built in ram air on the hood.

The opening for the ram air is definitely a specific size and shape and I haven't found one that seems like it would fit yet.

I don't want to trade power for looks so any advice I could get would be great. I wish BMC would have done a combo kit like Cervini does with their '10-14 ram air/CAI combo.

Would there actually be any benefit to a ram air setup for a turbocharged and intercooled system? The turbo will produce the forced air (there is debate on whether a ram air system works on a NA engine anyway) and the intercooler is where you will see the air temperature dropped. I'm not sure there is any benefit to be had. That said, the hood does look cool.

Looks like you might me about to run an Airaid without the lid.

I was thinking the same thing, Adam.

Again, my first thoughts on this hood, sadly, were more about form than function.

I do plan on other mods for performance and engine longevity (intercooler, oil catch can, possible turbo upgrade) but wonder what impact I'll encounter with a functional ram air hood rendered non-functional because of a closed or stock CAI.

I don't currently take my car to the track, but I may be slowly building towards that.

As of now, my only mods are a Cobb accessport with OTS map for 93 octane and NGK 6510 plugs (gapped at 0.028 per suggestions from this forum).

Those were my suggestions ;)

Could pick up a ton of power with a tune, you already have the unit and its cheaper than a hood.

I know! That's why I included that info in your quoted reply!

I plan to get with you on a tune after I get my other mods complete.

The hood was kinda necessary anyway due to some road debris driving here in Dallas

So, my question still remains. I think I'll need to do some kind of open CAI for the ram air, or does it even matter??

Air raid actually has an open box option. They list it as track only. I bought it because it was cheaper and it was similar to the cai that I had on my old car.

I'm thinking now I may head to Cobb in Plano and see if they would do a custom fab cutout on the top of their new CAI cover to fit the opening for this hood. First Thursday is this week, so I'll find out the if it's a possibility
