Am I missing part of my piston?? Lol

I did a compression test on all cylinders as I'm preparing for FI.

All cylinders tested 212 psi except cylinder #5 which tested at 240.

I borescoped the cylinders and found some carbon buildup as expected.

However....on cylinder #6 I see what looks like serious damage. Maybe it's a trick of this cheap camera, but it seriously looks like I'm missing a chunk of piston.
It has compression so what am I really looking at??

The car has been running as normal.

Gen 2. NA. 18 manifold and lund tune.

More pics of cylinder #6. I tried to progressively zoom in while rotating the engine

And for reference, below is cylinder #5 which was the one with higher compression. It looks, comparatively, good.

These cameras with led lighting will scare the shit out of you with shadows looking like holes. Is there an issue?

I am coming around to this conclusion, myself. It is the same way in the gun world when people scope barrels.

No issues that I've experienced. Looking at a couple of these pictures I wouldn't think an engine wouldn't even run or have compression.

I haven't even noticed it burning oil.

There is some serious detonation gong on.

Just looks like oil pooled up to me, and the reflection from the light on the borescope

If your highest reading is 240 and lowest is 212, you're within 12% which is fine. Ford workshop manual says within 25% of the lowest and highest.
But yes, I had a few drops of brake cleaner drip from the valve to the head and I freaked out thinking I had a hole on top of the piston.

Bingo

Once you said that my brain immediately realized what I was looking at.

Sent these pics to a buddy that was hanging out while I was doing the compression check yesterday. He told me he took the liberty of putting seafoam in the cylinders to "soak" them.

Seafoam works ok, but if you really want that carbon gone, get the motor up to operating temp, then remove the PCV tube at the intake manifold. Get a regular spray bottle with tap water in it, and spray short burst of misted water into the barbed fitting. Don't go crazy, just short small bursts and let the motor suck it in. When the water hits the cylinder it will imediately vaporize, and steam clean the pistons and valves.

Why do you say that. What should I be looking for. I thought detonation would show as some pits on the piston.

cylinder #6 looks like oil and or coolant. Do a leak down, then worry about the carbon. Water trick works good, as long as it doesn't knock off a big chunk of carbon.

This was/is covered in your other thread with the photos. Your chasing problem that doesn’t exist. The compression is within tolerance and all of your pistons are there. If you’re concerned with the carbon build up, do as others suggested to eliminate some of it and you’ll be good to go. I understand your concern as you want to boost the car, but with 90k on the clock or 9k on the clock a position can exit stage left whenever it wants. It’s just part of playing the game on stock motors.
