I think the colour theme is rather suggestive of the 80's. It's not that it doesn't look ok, it's just kinda from a time gone by.

I think if you're gonna try it (no harm other than to your wallet, it'll peel off), doing them in a matte gold finish would look a bit more modern.

Not to be a naysayer but seems like that color combo was/is more iconic to the Pontiac Trans Am than Mustang.

The only downfall with vinyl stripes is if you ever decide to remove them, you will still see the edge of the stripe etched into the paint. It can only be removed by stripping the paint to bare metal. Even if you were to remove the stripe and say for example repaint the car without a complete paint removal, you will still see the stripe outline. Im talking if the stripes are on for a period of time. Not days or weeks. Just depends how anal you are. But if you like it go with it! Black n gold look classic.

1966 GT350H (Beyond famous, star of many car ads in the mid-60s and the rent-a-racer program)

1968 Smokey Yunick Boss 302; intended for the Trans Am series but Smokey stayed with NASCAR instead (google for great pics)
