K. I have been making some phone calls around and I don't like the answers I am hearing from dealers. My local dealer when asked if they had an allocation or not said; leave a "sizeable deposit" and we'll see if we can find one (I am looking for a 2020 GT350R only, ordered to spec). Another SAID they have an allocation except when the peon sales rep looked further into the matter a week later, vitto'd and said they do not.

I have talked to 3 other dealers that do have allocation and would accept a order with a deposit.

QUESTION. How do I know or ensure that the dealer does have an allocation first off and that I can indeed trust them with a deposit for a April (2nd) build? What paper work or confirmation do they have (that they can also prove to me) that they are getting/have an allocation? Cause, I don't want to find out they don't come April, have a deposit tied up and maybe even eaten (unless I buy some fucking car I don't want nor will I pay for)... wasting my time and giving up opportunity of a dealer that I could have worked with?

Appreciate your time - wish this whole damn process was alot easier and not full of greasy-greedy sales-people / dealers...

Some where along the line you just have to trust your dealer. I can't believe all the bad experiences or perceived experiences on this forum. My dealer told me up front that it would be 8 months before they could get me a car built. They have to call their rep and get in line just like everyone else. There is no reason for them to lie about when they can get a specifically built car. True, they can look around and locate one for you but if they don't have one to trade for the chances of them getting one are slim unless they overpay for one which they are not going to do. It's a business. Pick one of those 3 dealers and put your faith in them.

It will always be a long wait regardless, unless you pick one off a lot. I managed to find a reputable dealer who would not take a deposit until they had a confirmed allocation. YMMV. When I placed my deposit, I required it be fully documented and fully refundable for any reason.

How do I know (and what proof can they provide) that a dealer for sure has an Allocation?

I cant recall what my dealer showed me, but it was a document showing they got 3 non-Rs and one R. The dealer you are working with should be able to produce some sort of document from their regional rep confirming their allocation.

You are rightfully concerned as there are so many stories on this forum alone of folks who waited and got screwed cuz the dealer never had an allocation. Then they were out of time to recover. Good luck.

Where are you located? I have good friends at a Wisconsin dealer that can get them. They sell about 5-6 a year.
I am in Canada which makes it allll very tricky. Few allotments and buying out of the USA would be heavy duty/taxes exchange rate is terrible as well. 2020s are suppose to be much rarer this year over all, so I am not sure on 5 or 6 Rs!

Yeah not sure how all the Canada stuff would play into that.

Yeah, it would be a gong show... If that is the case, I am better off (likely) to wait 4-5 years and buy a used 2020. Here is hoping.

Are they really that hard to find? I wonder if it will be like the RS was here. Nobody knew anything and then every dealer had one sitting on the lot.

No, they know what's up for sures... Thoughts on how to confirm if they HAVE received a allocation for a 2020 GT350R? Verdict so far is that they indeed should have received an email.

Any reason you want a 20 vs a low mileage 18 or 19? I did not want an R, so my selections were much larger, but there were several Rs within 500 miles of my zip. I found an almost new 2018 GT350 in the exact color and with every option I wanted that only had 1400 miles. It cost me *thousands* less than I would have paid for a new 19 or 20. The car is awesome and I will enjoy it as much as a brand new one for many years to come.

Dealers here are selling for almost new prices.

The MAIN reason (and this to me is worth the extra money) is color. Also, it'd be a 19 or 20 for me because of the block changes.

I got my 19 R for $4800 off msrp. IMO changes made to the 20 were not worth the over $10,000 difference in price it would have cost me. I lucked out and got the color I wanted however. My 18r is also solid with no oil consumption issues for what it’s worth.

4800 off - in the USA or CA? Was it in Calgary?

I may lean towards this if I don't get to order what I want or get dinked around.

Again. Willing to pay MSRP but not over... Fuck. That.
