2020 GT PP2 with 295/30/19

Hey guys,

Just picked up a 2020 GT with the PP2 pack. I'm pulling the 305/30/19 Cup 2's (I'm up north and the spring and fall temps get cold, needed an all season option). I just received 4 Toyo Proxie4 Plus tires in 295/30/19. Again, the OEM setup is 305/30/19

I was under pressure to find an option that was available for the car (tire replacement was part of the negotiations with my dealer). The 305's were way too expensive up here, and after a little research and a few phone calls to Toyo Tires I went with the 295/30/19. They said they fall within the 3% spec range to work with the speedo, etc.

I've since found a few threads here on the forum where folks are saying that the 295's are going to look terrible, as they're a shallower side wall as compared to the 305/30/19 and that a 295/35/19 would have looked much better (which isn't available here - well I'd need to confirm that further).

Is there anyone out there that has put 295/30/19's on their PP2 or GT? Is it going to look okay? Or is it going to destroy the look of the car? The side wall is 1/4" shallower-ish when I measure them.

50% of me is hoping you'll tell me it's going to look just find, and 50% of me is looking for the truth 🤦🏽‍♂️

I have 305/35/19 back, and 295/35/19 front. Previous owner went to those when the first set wore out I assume, to reduce the front poke and fill the fenderwell a bit more. That being said, I can't see 295/30's destroying the look of the car. When replacing I may go back to the 305/30 front and rear, but I do kinda like the idea of 35's adding a little more cushion to the ride.

I really appreciate the insight. I'm beginning to think that the 295/30's are going to be too shallow. I really like the idea of 35's. I'm going to try to find a set of 295/35's or go with a standard set of 305/30's.
Is there any advantages or disadvantages to staggering the tire sizes? Example, similar to what you have currently... 305's on the rear and 295's on the back?

You could drop down to a 285/35R19. They'll be stretched, but will work fine and its a more common size.

Looks like pricing is similar when I compare the 305/30/19's to the 295/35/19's. I've confirmed that after a small restocking fee I can return the 295/30/19's. There are more options available in 305/30/19. The most common option is the Michelin Pilot Sport 4S. Another one is the Continental Extreme Contact Sport? I've ready mixed reviews onto Continental.

So I'm wondering what everything thinks comparing the 30 vs. the 35. I guess if I go 30 it seems the safest as it's what the car was built around. But sure do like the idea of 35 filling up the wheel well a little bit. But the 35's are hard to find here in Canada

The 305/30s do look a little short next to a 285/35 (which in turn look marginally shorter than say a 275/40 on a 9.5" wheel). For an 11" wheel you can't do much better tho.

The MP4S is outstanding warm/wet daily driver sports car tire. Its ok in cool temps (40+) but isn't designed for sub-freezing temps both in the choice of rubber compound for cold traction and also because it may crack. Conti ECS is a competitor, and a little soft in the sidewall, but similarly a summer tire like the MP4S.

If you intend to use the car in any sort of freezing precip or sub zero dry weather, look elsewhere.

I've driven the Michellins on a rare sub-zero temps (dry) day and they gripped fine (all things considered), but when that tire was retired it did show some minor cracking. Try to avoid it.

Thanks so much. I appreciate the help. So I guess the 305/30's are the way to go. The 285/35's are a little small for the 11" rears, aren't they?

No winter driving for me. Maybe some close to zero (celsius) in the late fall, early spring.

Yeah MP4S are a little pricey, but its probably the best all-round sports car tire out there. It can do everything pretty well. Definitely not quite the raw hot grip of the Sport Cup 2, but they do fine on a track, and do street and canyon carving duty very well. They're boring good, nothing much to complain about except the price, and sure, if you're trying to get a fast lap time there are of course stickier and shorter-lived tires. Conti ECS is one minor step down in performance (closer to the previous generation Michelin - the MPSS) but the Conti's cost a little less.

285/35 are indeed a little stretched on an 11" rear. I'd go with the 305 MP4S for sure, without a second thought.

That's exactly what I was hoping to hear. Ordering the MP4S's now, mounting on Tuesday. Only to sit for the winter. Going sell the Cup 2's to someone who could enjoy them on the track. I have exactly 100km on them (60 miles).

The 35s do fill it up better. And I've had no issues as far as driving goes, actually rides smoother than the cup2s that came on it.

They sure do! I love how they fill up the well! But my gosh, they're expensive. $500 more for those 35's up here in Ontario Canada (for a set of 4). I ordered the PS4S's in 305/30's... found the best pricing (which is still a fortune 🤦🏽‍♂️)...

After looking, you are right, the 35's do look better. When it is time to replace these Nitto's I'm going to the mentioned Michelins above. I think Ill stay with 35, just need to decide on sticking with 295/35 in front or going back to the 305's it came with.
