I've read a couple different things that contradict one another.

Which is it?

Thanks!

If they're brand new, they'll need to be programmed. If you're just taking off factory wheels and storing them and then putting them back on, there's nothing to futz with. They'll automatically fire back up.

Maybe Nastang is right about brand new ones. But Its self learning. If they came off another Mustang.I took my stock V6 16 inch rims off and put a set of 17s on it, and the car picked up the TPMS automatically.

Ok, this is what is happening.. Dealership jacked up one of my wheels during a tire change. They are going to swap it out with a wheel on one from their lot. Should I have them swap out the TPMS sensor (is that done easily) or just take the new wheel and bolt it on?

I'm just taking the wheel/tire to them to swap out tires between the wheels.

I'd ask them to ensure that there is a TPMS in the car that is functional so you don't get the TMPS warning light. Doesn't really matter if it's the old one or if the new wheel comes with a new sensor. You just don't want that damn light on because it's kinda annoying.

The dealer can just reprogram that one. Not a big issue.

Swapping out TPMS requires taking the tire off and remounting. They'd rather not do that. That's how I've gotten Discount Tire to discount their sensors heavily in the past so they wouldn't have to do the labor of removing sensors from an old set to a new set of wheels.

That's what I figured.. Car won't be there, so that's a no go.

Can these things be swapped out between wheels fairly easy?

I bought a new set of tires and wheels with new sensors and all I did was install them, did not program anything and everything works fine. My car is a 2016.

Ah...no the car definitely needs to be there so the TMPS can pick up the car's transponder.
THIS. Takes seconds... Any tire shop should be able to do it also

Just pickup the reset tool off Amazon for $30 and program it yourself. Less hassle than having to go to the dealership or tire shop and then you can also reprogram them after rotating your tires.

I bought new ones off of Ebay for my new wheels, left the old ones in the PP set when I sold them. They took care of themselves. Didn't have to teach or anything, the car picked them right up.

I bought a set of wheels from another Mustang. The new TMPS starting working on it's own after about 10 miles.
