2000 miles most all of it SCed 550rwhp when the clutch didn't slip. It is slipping now so you should figure any SC mod is going to need a clutch sooner rather than later. I'll be putting in a dual plate, T-56 Magnum and aluminum driveshaft this winter.

I am at 2K now and it is still holding on at over 650 rwhp. RXT is sitting on the floor though ready to go in. I am just seeing how long it will last.

Spoke too soon. A newer M5 decided he wanted some tonight. At the top of 3rd I had a car and a half. Shifting into 4th pedal went to the floor and it never came up. Babied it back to the house. All is well.

Looks like I finally get to put my Barton shifter in. [emoji2]

If you're not breaking parts, you're not going fast enough. Nice work guys.

You should check out my build thread and see the clutch carnage pics of my car shortly after I installed my supercharger. LOL. The trans will go shortly as well.

What are some options with regards to transmission choices that are direct fitment?

A clutch is one thing but a tranny? Hopefully your situation regarding the MT82 is an isolated one. Hopefully something in the neighborhood of 600hp will be sustainable with the factory tranny depending on how the car is driven.

LOL,. my situation is not isolated, the MT82 just cannot hold 600hp+ reliably.

If your MT82 survived at 600hp, I wouldn't be surprised, but if you told me it broke, I also wouldn't be surprised. The MT82 is not reliably, a 600hp transmission.

I sent mine off to Ben Calimer out of Waynesboro PA to be rebuilt. His stage 2 rebuild entails the following:

Welded Shift Forks
Brass Shift Pads
Cryo Treated Gears
Rem Polished Gears
Smoothing of the Gears

He claims it will hold 1000whp, and shift much more smoothly. His stage 2 kit is around $1800-1900 with you sending him your transmission. This does not include any replacement of broken or severely worn parts, that is extra.

I broke 3rd gear and the main shaft, he also saw some chipping on my 4th gear. My Total bill came to like $2400 to replace 3rd, 4th, the main shaft, and the stage 2 upgrade. Plus shipping.

As far as your transmission swap choices go:

Tremec T56 Magnum XL
Built MT82
4r70 auto swap
TH400auto swap
6R80 auto swap

All of the auto swaps are not exactly direct swaps, they do require a good bit of parts to do.

Ouch...some of those options are pricey. A rebuild seems more than reasonable however. I wonder what the average turnaround for a rebuild is.

I was quoted 2-3 weeks.

I am going with the T-56 magnum, much stronger better gearing and way better shifter than any aftermarket add on. The same kit that fit the s197 fits the s550. The only part you may have to source is the driveshaft and I can get that done locally. Dynotech does them for Walsh racing so they might have the specs ready to go.
