I don't think dealers particularly care whether the car has been modified and if there's a history. Their goal is to buy low and sell higher. At least that was my experience with a few dealer cars I looked at. They couldn't answer a single question about the modifications, and sometimes I could tell they were just guessing. In one case they did call the previous owner though, at least allegedly, and got some information for me.
Somebody will eventually buy the car. Folks like us will beat them to death on it, but someone will eventually buy it, they know that. It may sit for a couple of months and they'll end up adjusting the price, but it will sell.
