I have to get my Mustang inspected. Not sure what Ford charges at a dealership to do it. I just want to make sure it doesn't get any scratches or other damage. The local shop is cheap and we've used them for years. Just never cared much about the paint on the vehicles they were inspecting so never noticed any issues.

I can watch from outside the garage while they do it. Not sure if they have to drive it or if I can go along.

What do you do? Who do you use...a dealership or other garage?

Thanks

What are you getting inspected? Car is still under warranty so if I feel anything major coming up, I'd just take it to the dealer. I made friends with my service person and one of the mechanics. They both love and respect my car (The mechanic calls it his baby). They both know my expectations and they haven't disappointed me yet.

All cars have to be inspected, at least in North Carolina, except if they are over 35 years old.

Our inspections here are pretty basic. They drive it about 100yds, make sure the brakes and horn works, check the lights and the wipers, and no CEL... done. I just take it to a dedicated inspection place, no worries. Takes about 5 minutes.

Not true. Read here

If car is within 3 newest model years and has less than 75k, no emissions test is needed. (only applies to light-duty, gas powered vehicles in the 48 emissions counties)

Not true again sort of.... lol

I just went thru this. Even the 3 newest model years have to be inspected...they just don't need an emissions inspection. They simple do a safety inspection which is things like lights and horn and such. This saved me no real time or cost me any less money.

I went to the DMV to get my sticker thinking the same thing you did and I just pay my taxes and get a sticker. The DMV lady was happy to tell me get lost and go get it inspected.

Gentlemen;

Every state is different. There are great places to own a car like Michigan, and gawd-awful shit holes to own cars in like The Socialist Republic of Virginia.

Each has their own rules.

Sometimes you have let go of your children and let them ride the bus to school. They'll be fine but you can always follow the bus in your car if your really worried and want to be that guy.

I'll bring my mine to my local repair shop guy or to the dealer when it becomes time.

I take it to the butt-sniffer station by the airport in Chandler and sit there while they do whatever they have to do.

I should note I don't have to do this on my Mustang for a couple of years, but the Honda and BMW get the automotive colonoscopy every year.
