What would be a better platform to build a 8-900 rwhp tt ? S197(13-14) or s550. Also what would be needed to upgrade in the engine to handle that power ?
Funny to ask this question on an S550 forum. Head over to the S197 spots and see what the answer is... Of course we will all say s550 :D

So your goal is to have a dyno sheet that says 8-900 hp? Just draw one yourself. Then the only thing you need to buy to handle it is some construction paper and a box of crayolas.
There are some people that never race their car. They show it, take it to cruise-ins and ride them around. They like knowing that the power is a pedal away! If that is what they like, that is great!! Enjoy the hobbie that is MUSTANG!

My father has the S197 and I have the S550. I like both. It came down to styling for me. Both have their pro's and con's but both are great cars.

Depends on what the purpose of the car will be. If it's going to be a 900+ hp drag car, then I believe the S197 is the better platform being lighter and having the solid rear. If it's a cruiser/dyno queen/show car then I would give the edge to the S550 (and really it's personal preference).

Both platforms have the same transmissions so there is no edge to one or the other here.

The S197 has a better suspension set up and axle assembly for straight line. The stock 31 spline axles will handle some abuse, and if you do decide to change the axles, they are MUCH less expensive than IRS axles (less than a 1/3rd the cost).

The S550 does have a better short block from the factory and also gets better heads from the factory as well. If you want to go racing with any serious power, you will have to upgrade the axles, which are expensive, as well as the carrier housing (good luck finding an iron one now).

But really, don't worry about what WE think you should go with. Go with what YOU wants to go with. We're not the ones footing the bills or driving the car.

S550 all day.. Stronger engine, stronger rear end, and a solid trans option with the 6R80E.

The stock S550 engine on E85 will support 800whp with nothing more than a set of oil pump gears and a billet timing gear. You can do this on blower, or with a pair of turbos.
The 6R80 in the S550 is different than the one in the S197??
