Since a few weeks I notice a rattle noise during deceleration on my 2020 GT Automatic (throttling around 1k - 1.5k RPM). See video attached.

Dealer is saying that all Mustangs are doing this noise.

However using a stethoscope I noticed a loud rattle within the VVT solenoid on the driver side?

1. Do you experience the same?
2. My assumption is that there are 2 VVT solenoids, one on the drive side and one on the passenger side. Correct?

Thanks for your advice

Is this a cold engine? It should go away once fully warmed up.

Hi
It happens warm and cold.
In neutral and revving at exactly 2500rpm it sounds like a rapid ticking noise. Almost like a relay clicking loudly. So you think it’s the VVT ?.

Exactly the same sound as the video but constantly does it at 2500rpm regardless if in neutral or driving.

Likely the exhaust solenoid then.
Have a look at this. Same engine but a F150:

Yep
That’s definitely the noise I’m hearing. If I hold the throttle at the right place I can make the noise constant.

how come I dont have any other engine problems ?.
Performance is still very good.
the only symptom I hear is that the exhaust sometimes sounds different or a little off.

The exhaust note being off was what I noticed when I started getting the problems. We think it's the vct exhaust side bank 2, the cam isn't retarding as it should. Hopefully getting the act swapped out in next 2wks.
Have you checked for any error codes?

Hi
No codes at all.
I seem to have an intermittent problem where the car feels a little under powered and the exhaust note changes. Also what feels like surging during deceleration.

have you encountered any problems like this ??
Mine clicks like crazy rapid at about 2500rpm

Have a look at this. Same engine but a F150:

Just checked the comments and he says that the noise came back and the dealer said the noise is normal operation.

been looking at the vct pids and they seem ok.

one is fluctuating between 0 to -0,06
And the other is staying around 20 degrees.

if you have a v8 then both exhaust cams should be in same position as each other (as should the inlet cams though a different position) My bank 2 (left hand side as you sit in the car) is stuck in the fully advanced position and you can see the PID's where the solenoid is being told to move and basically is doesn't. VCT was changed and still the fault persists so it is the phaser next to be replaced :(

Oh damn
Don’t think mine are that bad yet but I’m getting intermittent rattle from them with a slight reduction in performance.
Before I do anything I’m going to change from 5w20 to 5w30 apparently revised in 2021 for the coyote. The higher pressure may resolve my problem.
