Hey folks - I am currently running 285/35/20 and 305/35/20 Goodyear Supercar G2 tires. I will need new rear tires in the next 30 days or so.

I am really leaning towards the MPSS in 295/30/20 (front) and 305/30/20 (rear) as I don't want to run a 315/35 out back. I would go with a 315/30 but can only seem to find a 275 to match up front. I want a 285/295 as a minimum.

My only concern is the 1.2" diameter difference between a 305/30 and 305/35 and how it will look on my car in the rear. That equates to .6" lower at the top of the tire vs. the current size on my car.

I think the 30 series will still look good. Agree? Disagree?

Call me picky or whatever :D
Some pictures of the current tires to see gaps.

IMO 30 looks to "skinny" and the ride isn't as nice as a 35.

Welcome to the conundrum I was in before I ended up just settling with Cooper tires. I wanted desperately a 285 up front and 305 in the rear (both 35), but I can't afford $1,500 in tires for what is essentially a daily to get Pirelli's and the BF Good's have ugly sidewalls and were back-ordered. Could have gotten the same tires you have but they aren't appropriate for how I use my car typically.

Better tire options for "purpose" at 19" so that's what the stock rims will have to be for (in my case).

I considered for a long time doing 285/35 up front and 315/30 in the back. Somewhere on this forum I posted about that and got a few pictures, but as per usual I cannot find it. At the time, I could get MPSS in those sizes and also some Nitto tire. I don't seem to be able to find either today in that combination. Anyway, unless bagged, I have never liked 30 aspect on the front of our cars on 20" wheels (personally). Your car though - but I would suspect a pretty harsh ride with 30 up front.

I have literally called Cooper HQ and begged for a 285/35-20... so far my begging hasn't worked.

Unfortunatelly these are 19" wheels, but I hope it helps. Excuse the crappy cell phone camera + my crappy picture taking skills.

The MMD pictures are MPSS 295/30/19 squared and Sportlines.

The N4SM pictures are R888 295/30/19 and 325/30/19 and coilovers lowered slightly more than Sportlines.

Hey Todd, I've been researching this quite a bit as I haven't decided yet if I want a 19" or 20" wheel. I have a Ride Tech Level II coilover setup sitting in the garage waiting to be installed while I decide. What I have decided is that I personally think the 30 series tires on the 20" wheels look a little thin for this car. I too want MPSS's and thought I wanted the same size as what you are thinking until I came across a pic of that set up (I'm currently look for it). For me, I've come to the conclusion that if I go 20" I would select a 285/35 for the front and 295/35 for the rear.

The MPSS 295/35 has an actual tread width of 11.6" to 12" depending on which model you choose. The 305/30 is 11.8" wide. The 285/35 is 10.1" compared to 11.5" for the 295/30 however. The stance though is what sells it for me. Take a look at this thread here of the Guard green mustang on Vorsteiner wheels: http://www.mustang6g.com/forums/showthread.php?t=46538&highlight=vorsteiner+wheels

He is running 295/35 rears and 275/35 fronts. I think it's a good stance with the right amount of sidewall height. It is my opinion, however, and I'm sure not everyone will agree.

Thanks for the pictures and info so far.

daltron Thanks for the pictures. If you don't mind, could you measure from the group to the center of your front/rear fender and tell me that measurement? Mine is currently 27.5" and I am running Steeda Ultralite linears.

Here is a picture with my car and other S550 that is running 30 series tires lowered on the Roush CO setup. He has 295/30 out back and 275/30 up front. I think this looks good, too.

Absolutely, but I am embarrassed to say I don't know what you mean exactly.

Can you draw a line on this pic and I will take the measurement front and rear for you.

Todd I'm not sure if this helps but Dennis (SC_Ruby) and I are running 285/35/19 front and 325/30/19 rear. The tires are almost dead even height wise front to rear but the fronts are actually a smidge taller. I'm not sure how this equates to you having 20's not 19's and the sidewall will be taller for us being a 325/30 compared to what your looking at because the sidewall is a percentage of width and the wider the tire the taller the sidewall......

Guess after all that typing I've got nothing for you lol.

Thanks for the measurements. If my thought process is right, mine should measure somewhat close to that if I go 30 series tires since I'll lose about .7" in tire height so that will reduce my front and rear fender heights.
