Not sure about the track prep, but my 3.73's and Pirellis were not a good combo yesterday. My best pass was 13.38 @ 109.xx on a 2.1 60ft. And I spun like mad in 2nd gear rolling the throttle to the floor. I've never used launch control, but it's starting to sound like I should. I back pedaled it and was very conservative on throttle application and it didn't help. I think I left at 1800-2000 rpms easing it out too.
I have the MGW shifter and I'm guessing I need the braided clutch line as going into 3rd had little to no feel other than the car continued to accelerate. Really weird to describe. It also did the normal IRS hop, so I may be sold on trying a few rear suspension goodies. Maybe that might better plant even the stock tires on hard shifts.

Car is stock? Pirellis really don't work well at the track. You should try launching at abour 1200-1500rpms and see if you can get a little better 60'. As for wheel hop I installed BMR Cradle and Diff lockout kits and they helped a lot on the street and a litttle at the track. Launches were smooth but still hopped bad shifting into 2nd. Got tired of spinning and just bought some slicks. No more hop or spin!

Yep, stock for now. I didn't run with my tune since it was already spinning so much. I'll try 1500 or so, slicks are quite pricey with wheels. Hopefully some more manufacturers make more choices.

Launch control will not do anything for the 2nd gear traction issues. The stock Pirellis are just not good at the strip with a stick car. The best advice I can give you for "launching" your car is something I saw here on this forum. Imagine you are at a stoplight and there is a cop next to you and you want to accelerate as quickly as possible when that light turns green...without getting in trouble. This is sooo true with the stock Pirellis.

Kind of figured it's the tires. I did ok in first gear, so you're right about 2nd gear. I've noticed in a few other cars that they don't hook for squat at the track but do ok on the street. These Pirellis pretty much suck anywhere when I'm at all on the gas in 1st or 2nd, so I guess that should answer my own question. "Launching" is kind of an oxymoron when referring to a street tire I guess :) I did manage 2.0's with my 99 Trans Am heads/cam/bolt on car with Riken Raptors, but they were 255/50/16's.

Drag radials FTW. Find a couple of take-off rear wheels ($100 each without much looking) and a pair of good drag radials (roughly $500-$700 depending on size you choose), and for under $900 you should have all the traction you need.

Hoosier 28/10.00/17 Slicks are cheaper than drag radials and street tires . If you want a cheap light wheel ,the 2000 gt 17x8 is 18lbs and can be found for less than 50.00 each

Agreed. He has a manual so he needs a slick not a drag radial.

What track did you go to? Slipping the clutch will help in first. i was able to pull off some 1.9 on the same tires. I was spinning bad in second though without power shifting.

Fayetteville. And I never powershift, I would have redefined spinning in 2nd then. Thanks for the wheel tips, I thought this set up was so different than previous gens since there aren't many drag wheels listed. I assumed older Mustang wheels wouldn't fit. Time to look at some Hoosiers I guess. So that 28x10x17 fits the mustang 17x8 wheel well?

Awesome! Thanks you guys, I will be hunting soon. You can't beat that deal. Paint them black and call it custom.
