I thought you had to do the first service at 1600 Miles/2000 KMS but the salesman was telling me not anymore I just need to bring it in within 6 months or 10,000 km whichever comes first. I told him but this is a Mach 1 he said it's no longer needed.

Shall I listen to him or just pay out of pocket and do an early service? (my car has 5 years free service contract)

Probably will tell you it isn't needed until the 61st month.

I have the same type of package and I can change it anytime I want no questions asked. Mine is based on years as well but it also is a set number of changes by year so if I want to do them all every 3,000 miles and use them up that is my option.

I never go to 5000 on a new car - I waited until 2000 on my new 2021 GT only because I heard extra additives in the initial fill helped avoid bbq tick - but on many, many cars I have changed it at 1000 when new....I used to change oil at 3000 miles, now I do it at 5000 - I never, ever, ever go with the oil minder 10K oil change thing - except ONE time in my 2019 Escape - last year - I just got busy and totally forgot.

LIke previously stated, it never hurts, if it's out of pocket, just do it, no harm.

Some here change oil after first 1000 miles, others after 4000-5000 miles to leave the initial factory oil do its magic thing. I don't see a reason to rush it myself so gonna do it in this range in September (after 11 months) too.

Leave the factory fill oil in for a least 3000 to 5000 miles.
The days of Grandpa’s OCI are long over.
200K Porsche Turbo 911’s are 20,000 mile OCI.
There are modern oil additives that work over time/use.

I agree. I have done 1000 miles oil changes on new cars but that was 20+ years ago. Put some more miles on the engine first.

Don't do it out of pocket. You have a service plan. They can do it, they just don't want to.

@Charlemagne I wouldn't take any advice from Nick. His steering wheel is on the wrong side......:cwl:

There’s a few “schools of thought” on this subject. Are you doing high-performance driving or just daily driving? If you do HP then you’ll change your oil long before the recommended service interval. If you have a performance built racing motor you’ll change it out after break-in.
If you just daily it with some spirited driving the normal service interval will be just fine. Your warranty won’t magically disappear if you don’t change your original oil before 5K miles and this isn’t 1968, new engines have much tighter tolerances and will not shave metal off of the reciprocating mass during break-in.
CJPP just dropped the video, have a look yourself.

Same here. I kept it under 4k rpm for the first 500 miles, then under 6k rpm until I reached 1000 miles.
I did my first oil change @ 2000 miles with Mobil 1 Extended Performance 5w30. I'm at 3000 miles now, no ticks, no knocks, no slaps, no oil consumption. Oil drain pan was clear of metal particulates and the Blackstone Labs report came back clean. I probably could have gone farther, but I was getting a little nervous since this is the first new car I've ever purchased.
My experience with local dealers has been almost entirely bad. The money I'd save by taking it to a dealer for a free oil change, I would have to spend on gas getting there and back!
