A DORA is NOT a guarantee that a car will be built - only that Ford has received an order from the dealer. I've ordered plenty of cars for the dealership I work for over the years that never got built despite DORA's being printed for each and every order.

Can you list any reasons for why they never got built?

As far as the above question. It is indeed true and has been stated the R's were assigned via lottery. Everyone who got one was told by the end of April.

Can you list any reasons for why they never got built?
A DORA is not a contract, rather it is the dealer putting a request in to try and get the vehicle from Ford.

I'm amazed you don't get bombarded with emails.

Allocation. Allocation. Allocation. Allocation.

You guys gotta get beyond the idea that you can walk into any Dealership (be it Ford, Chevy) and just order what you want (Mustang, GT350, C7 Stingray) and bingo you get it. It DOES NOT work that way.

Ford/GM etc have production limits, they have Corp CAFE average requirements etc...Ford has an upper limit of GTs that can be built (percentage in relation to better mpg cars to get a Corp CAFE average). They also monitor sales--Ford does not want too many units just sitting on the ground as that causes dealers to start wanting incentives to move the metal.
If jo-po-dunk Ford in the middle of no-where that mainly deals in trucks decides to be Mustang Heaven and puts in an order for 50 EBs and 50 GTs--guess what, it ain't gonna happen. Ford will see that dealer selling 3 Mustangs a year for the past 10 years and is not just gonna ship them 100 Mustangs (Ford also wants to know the dealership can actually move them and pay for them). Doesn't mean the dealership can't get there--they are just going to have to work up to it-build a sales track record.

The calculations on this are quite 'secure" and Ford ain't gonna tell you specifics. It is also built upon relationships with Ford and the regional Zone manager.

Why order if you do not have allocation- why not? Even if you know Ford has told you only 20 GTs this year..a dealer will put in the Order for a 21st GT under the hopes that Ford will see a solid customer wanting the car and be granted the extra allocation. Sometimes it works and sometimes it doesn't.

But again folks--you have production limits. If 3000 dealers all ordered 5 Mustangs at the end of the model year-right before the production order date cut off it ain't happening as Ford could NOT build them all in time before the model year build out.

Lastly- back to allocation. Ford looks not only at individual dealership levels but Regional levels. They will probably not "add on" and grant a dealership an "extra" car if they see a large supply already on the ground and available in that region.

Hasn't it been stated several times that without an allocation that the system will not even allow them to place an order?

How does the window work for the guaranteed allocations based on a $1000.00 dealer fee?

Does it reopen after the first round is allocated or does it cement in the allocations for that dealer each year without a renewal?

Just in case I want 2.

So... Let's clear something up. As far as the lottery for the R's, that lottery must've been for the 2015 R's. Clearly it couldn't have been for the 2016 R's...

And why is that? There are only a few hundred 2016 R's being made, makes perfect sense to have a lottery for them

All of the 2015s Rs have been allocated and im guessing a very small fraction of those made it to actual dealers, and even less of those did dealers then pass on to a customer. (if any at all)

Do not order one, wait for it to hit the lots. You will probably get it sooner, too

Exactly!!!

Refreshing to see there is someone else here who can see thru all this hype and nonsense.

Allocations-WHATEVER, not the buyers problem. Joe Blow Ford can't sell you a car wait a while or move on. GT350s will be looking for a home sooner than you think. Let the guys who must have one now blow their wads. Don't get sucked into this crap.

Let's see... They have announced the 37 R's for 2015. They haven't announced numbers for 2016. If that's the case (and I know Ford can do whatever they wish), why would they lottery allocations for a secret number of cars? Doesn't make good sense.

Because either way you have 500 or less cars 2016 R cars and 3000 dealers nation wide. Lets just assume only the top 1/3 of dealers are ellgible for an R, even then you still only have 500 or less cars and 1000 dealers hoping to sell one.

And if something deleterious happened to hamper production and Ford obligated allotments they couldn't produce upon???

then the order gets canceled, very simple. The car isnt sold until you take delivery of it.
