I understand the value of the oil temp gauge and how to use that info (I.e., don't get too wild until temp is around 200).

What should one look for re: oil pressure?

Sorry if it's a novice Q.

That's really just about it. You can start to get concerned if your oil pressure is extremely low, but when the engine is very hot, you'll see lower oil pressures in general because the oil is thinner. You won't see oil pressures that are too high really. When the engine is cold and the oil is thick, near the top of the gauge is completely normal. And of course, you'll see much lower pressures at idle than when on the gas. But don't drive yourself crazy. There's nothing to be concerned about unless your oil pressure is very low, like 10 psi.

I've never had a car that had as high oil pressure as my GT350. When cold it is 100 PSI. When up to temp at idle, it's at 75 PSI. Any acceleration and it's at 100+.

Interesting, I'm going to start to monitor it more closely to see how mine behaves.

In reality it is mainly a fashion statement. Neither oil gauge is angled enough toward the driver to get an accurate read, though it's better than my dad's '68 Cougar XR7 which placed it directly in front of the passenger seat.

That's what I thought I was seeing, too. I just got my second oil change at my dealer and it's even lower than when I brought it in! I wanted it changed because I was seeing lower pressures and thought it was shearing down.

I called the service manager and he swears the correct 5W50 was used. He says he even checked the tech's trash can and found the ten empty bottles.

FYI, he also told me the following came from the shop manual. Normal oil pressure at idle and normal operating temp is 10-15 psi, and at 2000 rpm it is 30-40 psi. Is anyone seeing this low an oil pressure?

I think those listed pressures are for the regular GT and its 5-20 oil. My pressures are more like 40 when warm and idling, and 100 when at higher RPM.
