After 46 years of driving countless fast cars, I had first and only accident. Totaled my 2018 GT in the rain on the highway. Its a testament to the engineering of this car that I was totally unharmed. Wife wants me to "turn it down"... No V8 replacement...

Awww...that sucks. I did it to my GT500. I feel you, but the V8 had little to nothing to do with the accident. You do what makes you happy, and if owning a a Mustang GT is it, and it means enough to you to have her disapprove, you know what to do. Respectfully speaking, of course.

Well, my wife says I drove that car like a punk, and she's pretty-much right. Just sounded so bad-ass... Anyway, after 40 years of marriage, I know how to keep it going and get my way (eventually). I'll give it a go with a BMW Z430i (thank god for turbos and tunes) for a few years before I change directions.

Wow. Well, the car did its job, it kept you safe and thankfully unharmed. Glad you were able to walk away unscathed, as other said, cars can be replaced.

I am so sorry for your loss and so glad you are ok. My late 2018 Mustang met a similar fate. You are certainly right about how well these things protect the occupants. I hope your next car brings you as much or greater joy!

Very sorry for that, you have to be very cautious with these things in the rain.

How did you lost it?

Are you from Florida? Sorry to hear, I totalled my orange Mustang on I-95 (Broward County) last year, wasn't my fault. The car was promptly replaced with another Mustang.

That really sucks, but most importantly you're ok. People crash cars every second of every day.you could have been in a prius and the same thing happened. I think once the smoke clears your wife will come around. If you're like me I kinda drive everything like a rental so it doesn't really matter what you drive. You like to drive spirited. That's hard to change. My last wife hated my driving.

There's nothing worse than hydroplaning. At least on snow/ice you have a measure of control and consistency to help predict what's going to happen. But a hydroplane event gives you absolutely no control and can come out of nowhere.

Obviously I don't know the details, but the road looks straight in the area and I would tend to blame the people who designed the roadway with insufficient drainage. I can see in the photo your tires appear to have PLENTY of tread and are not Cup 2s or another dry day only type of tire.

I'm glad you're ok and I hope you enjoy the BMW. Seems like a good choice - well built for safety and comfort but still with some sportiness.

Sorry for your loss. I had a similar accident in my C5 Z06 while taking a turn at 70+mph in the rain. Hope you get what you want. Now the positive side is you get to buy yourself a new car. Good luck!

Sorry for the loss of the ride, but like others said, glad you're good. With all the rain we've been having here, I don't take either of my Mustangs out. Way to much water on the roads.

Glad you're okay.

No V8? Sounds like V10 R8 or V12 Ferrari then. At least that's what I'm doing if my wife ever says that lol.
Just following orders. No V8 ✅
