I've gone 175 in my Ecoboost before I ran out of room, I'd expect the GT with the limiter removed to at least equal that.

Having been up to 175-180 in my old Saleen, I backed out and still had more pedal. Scared the crap out of me. Lane dividing lines become solid and thoughts of a blown tire hit me.

The old saying rings true... Never drive faster than your angels can fly.

I'm sure 180 is possible, especially with a few bolt-ons, but I'm not sure where you'd find the space to do something like that though.

I would think the GT should hit much higher than 165. My 2003 Evo can hit 155 stock, I didn't find that out myself. And that is a 2 liter turbo, 5 speed, and only 271 hp. I figure a GT has a larger more powerful engine, better gearing for top end.

After some certain speeds the drag force makes the car impossible to overcome. You need a lot more aero and horsepower. For example a veyron can hit 267 mph on a really long stretch and it has almost 3 times the horsepower of the mustang. I am sure your evo had better drag coefficient. Even honda civics have lower drag coefficients. A 300 hp honda civic might hit 170 mph no problem. In Europe i was able to hit 220 kph (138 mph) in a 1.6 lt 120 hp 2010 honda civic. It took me a while to get there though lol

Drag comes into play big time. Simple test is do 100-150 and then do it again with the windows down.

Ive been told the limiter cannot be removed from the control unit even with a tune...but it can be raised to a level where the car woukd never reach.
Cananyone else confirm this?

Sounds right...

I've always been a GM guy until now. On my GM vehicles, past and present, you can raise the top speed governor to 255 MPH but not turn it off. My 5.3L Sierra pickup can't go 255!

Bugattii only uses 270hp to hit 155. but needs the extra 730hp to do 255.
As you know, energy vs velocity is twice the velocity you need four times the power.

Ive done 164 mph as well. Verified. 3.31's in 5fth gear, 7500 rpms could get you 186 mph so do me that would be the max,

BUT HOLY SHIIITE! someone went 175??? I went 198mph in an 09 Z06 and it felt relatively safeish...but 164 in my baby, actually scared me a little bit. You must have had an angel looking over you or something.

I have been what I believe to be pretty accurate is 168. That was about 7400 rpms in 5th in a 3.73 car, was perfectly stable. I have never tired going into 6th but I suspect there wouldn't be much more in it just due to gearing.
