Obviously, this forum will most likely sway towards the mustang obviously, but the new miata seems like a great drivers car. It also has pretty decent performance for such underwhelming numbers.

C/D TEST RESULTS (Ecoboost):

Zero to 60 mph: 5.5 sec
Zero to 100 mph: 13.3 sec
Zero to 140 mph: 31.4 sec
Rolling start, 5-60 mph: 6.8 sec
Standing ¼-mile: 13.9 sec @ 102 mph
Top speed (governor limited): 148 mph
Braking, 70-0 mph: 157 ft
Roadholding, 300-ft-dia skidpad: 0.98 g

C/D TEST RESULTS (Miata):

Zero to 60 mph: 5.9 sec
Zero to 100 mph: 16.2 sec
Zero to 120 mph: 28.9 sec
Rolling start, 5-60 mph: 6.6 sec
Top gear, 30-50 mph: 8.4 sec
Top gear, 50-70 mph: 8.5 sec
Standing ¼-mile: 14.6 sec @ 95 mph
Top speed (drag limited): 129 mph
Braking, 70-0 mph: 158 ft
Roadholding, 300-ft-dia skidpad: 0.90 g

The Miata has a better rolling start (street start, more realistic in day to day driving), almost identical braking distances. The Miata obviously has lower top speed and acceleration times. What's interesting is that they didn't put the top gear times for the ecoboost mustangs, but I'm assuming that they're much slower considering that the GT has mid 9 seconds times for both of those.

C/D TEST RESULTS (GT):

Zero to 60 mph: 4.5 sec
Zero to 100 mph: 10.4 sec
Zero to 130 mph: 17.8 sec
Rolling start, 5-60 mph: 4.9 sec
Top gear, 30-50 mph: 9.6 sec
Top gear, 50-70 mph: 9.0 sec

Standing ¼-mile: 13.0 sec @ 113 mph
Top speed (governor limited): 164 mph
Braking, 70-0 mph: 149 ft
Roadholding, 300-ft-dia skidpad: 0.95 g

So obviously the Mustang is faster, and gets their slightly faster as well, but which is a better drivers car?

Why is 5-60 MPH more time than a 0-60 run? Is the starting point in 2nd gear?

The only balk in this comparison will probably be due to different car classes even though the performance data is similar.

Of course the Miata is gonna feel quick and nimble because it weights almost 1000lbs less than a base EcoBoost.

The 5-60 MPH is more of a realistic street start. They start in first, but they don't drop the clutch, or launch it, so it's slower. It starts out in lower revs.

Either that or it's an automatic sitting in a cruise mode and the time difference is related to electronic throttle EPA controls. Pretty common in most new cars when you nail it you have to wait a while before the almighty computer decides you really mean it and deigns to open the throttle for you.

The Miata is going to be slower in almost every measure, though. They should put a turbo 4 in there. Then it would be a great car.

I wonder how the ND will compare to the NA, I wanted another NA but they have all been trashed, riced and stanced :(

The best driver's car between the two is...the Mustang because it's made in America

Happy Fourth of July, by the way. ;)

They're very similar in size and weight, I would recommend driving one once they get to dealers if you liked the NA.

The Mustang might be the better car, but not because of it's country of origin

Mazada beinfits greatly from being a blend of pacific and domestic OEMs. They have some of the best handling cars on the market.

I have a little turd 1.6 NA Miata, which I really enjoy driving inspite of it's shortfalls. It's a fun, reliable, and fuel efficient car.

I own a NC Miata and an 2015 Ecoboost. These two cars are in two different classes. The Miata at 2500 lbs is just pure fun to drive but very limited in raw power. There certainly would be no competition between these two cars in a tight autocross event. Just as there wouldn't be any competition at the 1/4 mile drags. The Miata is a very refined purposeful sports car. You could argue that a Ecoboost is a muscle car but you wouldn't get very far with the argument that a Miata is a muscle car.

Having a hard time with .90g on a skidpad with a Miata. I think Minivans pull that number lol.
