The display says 23 miles to empty. The gauge is close to empty. Yet the warning light has not come on and the Nav is not displaying a gas station

The miles to empty will vary a bit for when the low fuel warning will come on due to your current fuel economy, it is most likely a set interval of how much gas is really in the tank.

Mine is more like 50 miles when the warning hits. Which is really about 35 miles.

Mine pops on at nearly 20 MI left. It's been pretty accurate so far.

So the MTE is really how much is left before you're stranded on the side of the road, right? Once the a gas light comes on is there usually a gallon or so left?

I only ask because my last car had a MTE estimate and anything below 30 MTE it would just flash and no longer display how much is left so I had to guess, which was usually between 30-35 MTE. Usually the gas light meant about a gallon left. This is my first Mustang so I'm curious.

Fill it up, my first fill up was on the side of the road with 4 miles to empty. Not even close to accurate.

My mechanic buddy tells me to fill up at 1/4 tank most of the time, his reasoning is you don't know what is in the gas you put in your car or the bottom of your tank. If you run too low any debris that is in your tank may go into your fuel pump and seize it. Of course, I think the 1/4 mile thing is a bit overkill, but I generally fill up with about 2 gallons left in my tank.

Your pump sucks off the bottom of the tank....

But the reasoning is sound. Get too low and it can stir up stuff and suck up what could be floating.

My fuel light came on the other day when I was at 7 MTE...Thankfully a gas station was close by.

There is still supposed to be about 1 gallon of gas left in the tank when MTE = 0 miles.

The "Low Fuel" warning usually trips on when my MTE is 15~20 miles. From my calculations, when the "Low Fuel" warning comes on, there is about 2 gallons left in the tank. The "Low Fuel" is the first warning to look for gas, and the DTE = 0 is the no kidding 2nd warning you better find some gas close by.

OK, the low fuel came on with 18 MTE.
I have Nav and Sirrius, there was no automatic showing me the nearest gas station
