Have you owned, and what were your favorites?
I'm now on my 4th and I'd rank mine as follows:
1. Poppy Red '65 289 Coupe: Ranks top for me almost purely based on nostalgia because it was my first car, the other cars were better in every measurable way. This was a base 289 coupe with zero options, paint looked good from a distance, but had plenty of issues close in. But this was the car that started it all. Loved the 3 spd manual tranny (2nd gear would hit 80mph!). At 15, I loved this car like a person.
>High points: Style (still love the design of the first gen cars), the 289 was a sweet, high revving motor, 3 spd manual.
>Low points: this was an old car when I had it in the 80's, so it wasn't the most reliable (had my first date in this car, and the heater core leaked on her leg!). Always smelled faintly of gasoline, but that was part of the charm (rose tinted glasses right?). Clutch required building a new muscle, tranny whined like an old pick up.
Mods: Shamefully, this is the only one of the four I modded: Headers, full exhaust, upgraded Holley Carb (linked the butterfly valves to open all 4 at once.
2. Current, 2015 S550, GT/PP, Magnetic, Saddle interior.
>High points: To my eyes this is the best looking mustang since 1970, Coyote V8, comfort, luxury features.
>Low points: Initial build quality discussed ad nauseum on this site. Took about 2months to get it right, but it's nearly perfect now.
3. 2012 GT (non brembo), 3.73 rear, manual. 401A
>Highs: Actually loved the throwback, 18" wheels that came stock. Coyote performance (0-80 or so, this one felt quicker than my 15). Roomier backseat (compared to 15).
>Lows: Initial build quality again. Similar to 15, but also had to have both lower control arms replaced under warranty. Style: Front & side profiles were good, but always thought the back looked too narrow and a bit awkward.
4. 2000 base GT, Silver, manual
>Highs: Performance was solid by standards of the day (mere 260hp!), but I think the 4.6 liter sounded better than any of the above, (though the 65-289 was close after exhaust). Silver color showed well and stayed clean a long time. Initial build quality on this one was nearly perfect. No issues.
>Lows: Plastic interior of a base Taurus, switchgear from the Ford parts bin (cloth seats were very durable though). Style: This body style is probably my least favorite in retrospect, but at the time I would've given it a 7 out of 10.
