The 2015 Mustang GT was a crowd favorite during our Performance Car of the Year testing, its 435 hp and razor-sharp chassis letting it hang with cars with fine European pedigrees and ascot-quivering price tags. But enough is never truly enough, and the gasoline addicts at Hennessey Performance just dyno-proved a monster Mustang: How does 663 horses and 524 lb-ft at the rear wheels suit you?
Hennessey's HPE700 package slaps a meaty 2.9-liter supercharger and all the requisite fuel and computer add-ons atop the new Mustang's 5.0-liter mill. It all adds up to a claimed 717 hp and 632 lb-ft at the crank, says Hennessey–good for a tuner-claimed 0-60 of 3.6 seconds, on the way to an 11.2-second quarter-mile at 131 MPH. I should point out, that's on 93 octane gas–but it utilizes the Mustang's factory-stock exhaust system.
Those numbers will make Corvette Z06 and Challenger Hellcat owners sweat a little bit, as will the price: Hennessey says the whole kit will roar out the door for as little as $59,500, including the cost of the 2015 Mustang GT on which it's based.
How's it sound? Surprisingly quiet, thanks to the stock exhaust. But still absolutely vicious.
