I have tried to search the forums for anything regarding swapping the 3.73 gears with 3.55 gears on the gt performance package.

3.55 should make 1st more usable when DD, help on mpg a bit and allow for finishing 1/4 miles in 4th instead of needing to shift to 5th.

3.73 may be better for track as you stay in the powerband.

If anyone has any input on if this would improve the car overall.

Thanks

I believe Phunk changed his gears to 3:55 on his PP car, I also have 3:73 and went to an inch taller tire (28.7") and effectively changed my gearing to about 3:59.
Here is Phunk chart comparing the gearing with stock tires.

and 1 inch taller tires

Unless you're boosted you should be able to do the 1/4 without going to 5th with the 373's. I was trapping ~113 and that was finishing in 4th.

Thanks. So far I'm still getting some wheel hop that will be gone soon after I get some parts in. That and I'll push my shifts a little closer to redline and see if I can hold out on shifting to 5th

I had mine built with 3.55s for this reason and I am happy I did. You can still launch like a maniac but you can also take it easy and not have to shift as soon as the 3.73s when in traffic. I'm mostly a Daily Driver though and don't do much in the way of formal 1/4 mile runs so I can't speak to that.

But you also don't have a PP car, they don't have a 3.55 option

I'm just thinking the 3.55s will be better for DD for the most part as I will only see the track a few times per year. They should also help if I go FI in the future

I'm looking to swap out my 3:73 for 3:55's also I don't really wanna have to shift into 5th at the track I might consider 3:31's but I think the 3:55 gear would be perfect.

Yea. I'm just wondering if anyone has done it yet and if there were any issues and how the performance and mpg are affected

Not sure what your point is. He is asking about having 3.55s, I was telling him what my experience is with them.

should be zero issues doing the swap. the pros and cons have been listed 100's of times.

3.55 is a perfect compramise.
