I wont hate on what we have seen of the S550 yet since there is still a lot we dont know and I dont wanna troll the spy pics thread but just want to point out there's a lot of custom tuners that alrady make fusions look similar... They showed a bunch at SEMA last year.

Dont get me wrong I dont mind the look but I just cant understand why Ford would commission these just a year and half before the next mustang. They HAD to know these comparisons would be made IF thats what it looks like. You take a more pedestrian looking Fusion sedan and throw a kit on there to make it look more muscular... and you have the S550?

Maybe im in denial but find that hard to believe...

Corporate face man, its the way of the future for this company. They did it in the Fox days so no surprise there. Silver lining is at least they share a design thats been proven to be a smashing success already. altho i still have faith they will do something more with it.

All manufacturers seem to be doing this - Audi, BMW, etc.

I don't mind so much, the rest of the car will be much more distinctive. Plus, this is a great looking front end styling to begin with, so all fords end up looking nice. :)

This man has a point. Lots of same-sausage-different-length designs these days in the car industry. But, notihng in the Ford lineup will look like the Mustang once it's revealed since it'll be the only sports coupe. So what if the face shares some character with the Fusion and other cars... its a beautiful design :)

I think ford should have own unique design just for mustang, every time I see front of new car I think of ford fiesta, focus or fusion, it's sicking, ford had so much time to consider all independent and beautiful designs and decide to give a shot and try something new and still make mustang recognizable yet they didn't.

Seeing a car in visually obstructing camo or matte paint vs. seeing the car in production intent with proper finishes makes a HUGE difference. Everyone freaking out after one round of new photos needs to calm down. You've seen one side of the car, and it wasn't pretty on purpose. If you don't like it, don't buy it. Your wallet will speak louder than your voice.

I will probably buy one eventually down the road in a few years regardless of its looks mainly because of its superior performance to the S197s but at the same time I want the S550 to be a home run with no compromise or sacrifices. Thats probably what the skeptics also feel.

I'm not sure why people are so upset at this. I get that you want it to be unique.... so do I. And it will be... but that doesn't mean it can't share anything with any other Ford cars. That's just the reality of the business.

Every generation of mustangs up until the s197 has shared a corporate image with the rest of Ford's lineup. SN95 had the jelly bean shared by taurus etc, Fox had probably the most corporate face out of all of them sharing with the Taurus, Escort, T-bird, etc. Mustang II with the Pinto .... and on. In fact, the ONLY reason the S197 didn't is because it was never really a new design. It was just a new take on an old design.

Now that the Fusion, Fiesta, Focus, Taurus are such huge hits, it's time to realign the Mustang with the entire line up with a more modern corporate look. This is nothing new and if you think it's the death of the Mustang because it's going to share some design features with other Ford cars, then you are either new to Mustangs or haven't been paying attention.

Maybe I've seen too many renders that have all been trending in the same direction with the trapezoid grill and slimmer headlights but when I look at some of these I actually think more Mustang than custom Fusion.

Especially this one:

Give this a more fastback roofline, 2 doors, a side scoop and RWD, and I would buy this in a second.

From what I can tell they are upset at the timing of it all. Few will disagree that the Fusion is a great looking car. No one would even be talking about this if it was the 2016 Fusion that got the redesign. unfortunately for us it doesn't work like that anymore.

The Fusion is a cash machine for Ford right now... if they are going to "dilute" a design if you can call it that, it will not be with one of the world's best selling cars and one that outsells the mustang by 3 times or more. Sad reality of things but I will bet money that if the Mustang gets a design like this, it will break 100K sales annually for years to come.

You are right. It already looks dated to me because the Fusion has been out for a while. Its just like how Gm showed the Camaro for a couple of years before it went into production and when it did it looked somewhat dated also.

I know its not fair to judge by just a spy pic of a mocked up front end but I am just not excited at all anymore. I dont like the catfish grills on the corporate Fords and I think the Mustang should be set apart. Almost every last one of them remind me of the 98 Camaro. I know looks are always subjective and you cant please everybody. For the love of God though this is a Mustang and not a Focus. Please Ford, dont screw it up.

Here's a '93 Taurus SHO compared to the '94 GT.

Why didn't the SN95 look "dated" before it came out? Or did it? Seems to have done plenty good in sales regardless.

I'm with you on that. I think rear end will make or break it for me, if I ever decide to sell my current car. I really am disappointed that it looks so much like the fusion/Taurus so far..even if the car is smaller, lighter, more hp...it still looks wrong in my book.

It outsold the Camaro because the Camaro was hideous...worst looking generation muscle/pony car ever.

That's besides the point. People don't rush to buy a car just because the competition sucks. It has to have some appeal on its own.

and I was just pointing out the similarities of the SN95 to other Ford cars that came out before it. The same way the SN95 was not called a "dated" design when it was introduced.
