I did it myself.
I think the hardest thing is getting the rings to seal properly. I burned through about 4 quarts of oil in 5k miles on my motor and spun a bearing. I let it sit and never saw a leak so I assume I was burning it although I didn't see any smoke.
I've never put the heads together as both motors I put together I had a shop disassemble, clean, and reassemble them.
Putting the motor together is really easy, just lots of steps so you need to make sure you don't miss something.
