These days I'm more in the use-it camp.

I recently sold my daily, which now means my Mustang GT, is, my daily.

Petrol and Diesel may persist as new car ICE until 2030, in the U.K.
But I also suspect the Gov may allow petrol to reach £20/Ltr by then, as a nudge for all those who do not have a Bezos level bank balance, to get into an EV...

I may still be slightly precious about the mileage, at the moment, but I'll get over that.

Now, the current plan is to drive the wheels off the GT, before they stop me.

Petrol/diesel in my opinion will be around for a long time yet. It is also of my opinion the government will offer scrappage maybe and/grants rather than tax the shit (even more than they already do) as it will just hit far more low income families than car enthusiasts who have something special in the garage.

Aren't new hybrids allowed to be sold until 2035?

I've run out of Acetone and the electric tooth brush is flat.

This is interesting - do you think you will be able to remove it without witness that it was there ? Please keep us posted :like:

I was pretty sure I had tried acetone but upon double checking, its the acetone free crap that my misses has for her nails ...

The decal appears to be like a thick paint.

I started with a nail bush & acetone, to remove the thicker stuff.
However, I wasn't getting to the adhesion layer, very well.
So I thought I'd use the electric tooth brush.
The bristles did a better job of getting into the fine grain finish of the surface.

I haven't finished, but I've had to pop it back on, for now.

Also, as suspected, the material seems to have a high talc content.

Think my advice would be to buy a driver's side unit.
Also beware removing the light lenses, as above, the material is very soft, think it's PP.

Uncharacteristic guinea pig moment for me.
See you, ahem, "modify" the outer decal gave me the info I needed.

Didn't do as good a job as you, I can still see a slight outline.

Suppose I should lauch a second acetone wave at it.

Good thread!
 :)

I think I was lucky getting the fabric side decal off as soon as I did - it hadn’t even had time to bake in the sun before I removed it … :like:

Good point, heat cycling could well make it more difficult to remove later.
However, with the vanity mirror, it's an insert and I suspect, modular.
Ford may have Pokey-Oaked the cassette carrying the mirror glass and lenses, but I didn't see anything obvious, when I removed my pass-side SV cassette.
Therefore, I'd take a punt on the driver's cassette, fitting the passenger sun visor.
I certainly hope so.

As a 50 something, I've survived cars, all my life, none of which had these ridiculous decals....

Last piece of my delivery warranty claims arrived, but it’s not the final bit to get fitted (I might put a full list together soon …) :

I know that some do, but I’m not sure why you would want to leave it off as the 18+ isn’t exactly pretty under there :

Not pretty under the vents either :

Cleaned and coated, ready for the black ones now the hood blanket issue is addressed :

And thanks to @MAD MATT :sunglasses: :

Dropped one of the nuts though so I can’t refit the hood blanket just yet …

Took the opportunity (yesterday) to clay the bonnet and get a layer of Turtle Wax hybrid ceramic on it, followed by a second layer today and a first on the trunk lid. It’s pretty shiny and slick - it will be interesting to see what it’s water behaviour and longevity is like :like:

Thanks to @HoosierDaddy :sunglasses:

Taking the prime spot under the hood :

Other than that, just another one of my little projects, but for the kids this time after a scooter got dumped in one of the bushes at the front of the house.

After trying to find its owner / give it away (un-working) to the local kids, I got the go ahead to do it up for our daughters - new batteries / new charger / new chain guard / new grip tape / every nut and bolt (bar one) full tear down / new stainless bolts / brake refurb / frame T-Cut etc etc :

Not bad for £45 total rebuild costs and it’s a lot of fun, the kids love wizzing up and down the street on it (as does dad … :giggle:)

Nice! Especially the scooter. I went through the same process for my new hood vents. I love the Matt black but coated they are really more satin than matt, but still not gloss. Also a massive fan of the TW hybrid ceramic range in multi-coats. I still could not seem to get that deep thick shine look, but solved that with a overcoat of a good carnuba wax. I used the Bowden’s Own. Now the look is as desired ✅

I’ve still to do your boot closer straps, and sub’ cover screws mod’. I think I finally have all the parts now.

Yeah that’s my take on the hybrid ceramic (so far) is that’s it’s ‘glossy’, but not ‘deep’ - not when compared to a good carnauba.

Shiney, defo works OK on the reasonably light non metallic lime and it’s defo altered the look a little, but it will be interesting to see what I think when I get to the shadow black roof … I suspect I will be topping it (pinnacle sovereign) if / when I want that little bit extra :sunglasses:

Thats just classic sealant vs wax.

I quite like hybrid ceramic, its super slick and has a nice shine, but waxes will give a different look that sealants cant replicate.

Damn, I just looked up that PINNACLE SOUVERAN wax.

I hope it’s better value over there than it is here....😳

Nope, I wouldn’t pay anything like it’s current price and I didn’t do way back when I bought it (approx 12 years ago).

Here’s what I posted further up this thread : “The wax is pinnacle sovereign paste. It’s not cheap, but I have had it years and paid a lot less than current prices. Before it could be easily sourced in the UK, I jumped in on a mini group buy where a number of tubs were imported and we shared the shipping costs etc”

A little goes a long way, buts it still a ‘special occasion’ only wax … lol
