I've posted this on the Mustang6ix FB page (Toronto s550 Mustang Club) for more exposure.

Hey,

Any dashcams out there are basically in-car recording devices and ate not meant
to be used outdoors.

A GoPro can be used and mounted just about anywhere but don't offer the same features as a dashcam and vice-versa.

It all depends on what you intend to do with it.

I have the two channel version of this (rear camera and front camera) and like it a lot. It is good as a "traffic cam" as opposed to a "driving cam". By that I mean it is good for constantly monitoring when you are driving about town - it does have a bit of fish-eye effect to get a wide vision. The main advantage to the unit is that it is fairly small and blends in well behind the rear-view mirror - hard to casually detect from the outside. The wi-fi it provides is a great feature and you can easily download videos to your mobile device.

It is easy to hard-wire in with the kit that Montreal Ponies has shown here which I also had. I wired it all up in less than 20 minutes.

If you want something to document spirited driving like at a track then you want a Go-pro. The main disadvantage to the Go-pro is that it is large and you'll want to remove it all the time for theft reasons. That becomes a drag very quickly.
