18's 19s or 20s

This would be for SCCA FS class

I have only driven 285/35R19

Running 285/35R18 would result in cheaper tires and but in 2nd would top out at like 55 instead of 61?

I have no idea what 20s would bring to the table

I like 285/35R19 personally.

I'd avoid 20" for track type duty, personally...

18" are nice because you can get some sidewall, if you prefer it.

Had this question as well - what are the rules for wheels in FS? Do they have to be a size available from the factory or can you go with whatever? I have a GTw/PP do I have to stay with the staggered setup or can I go square and stay "stock"?

The rules for FS is that you can go +/- 1" in diameter.
Since the GT PP comes with 9" front and 9.5" rear you are pretty much stuck with staggered widths in FS.

Seems like RE-71Rs are 285/30R18 only and they're not that much cheaper than 285/35R19 - unless you think about using different tires (Rivals ?)

20" RE-71R became recently available but wheels get heavy I believe...

Cost isn't the big thing ($200 dollar difference) but mph is the big thing.

285/30R18 is 8.2% less diameter than 285/35R19. If ford had made second gear top out at like 68 this wouldn't be as big of an issue. Most of my courses I seem to run out of gear but to the point shifting to third never makes sense. Going to the 18's would make tires cheaper and lighter but I feel running out of gear even sooner will make that worse unless third becomes a better option because of the reduction.

The other train of thought is to run on 18's with the car predominantly in 3rd gear. This would be very course dependent and would only be viable on larger (national) courses.

So what I am hearing you say is +/- 1" diameter but stuck with stock width?

Been YEARS since I ran SCCA but after a couple of track days this year the bug is back. I want to get ready for the spring season.
