I was only in the engine to address a timing cover leak, wasn’t making any noise.Coil spring binding or rocker roller seized up? Unfortunately, I can't think of a way to test either that doesn't involve a very lengthy teardown to get under the cams. But, both of those conditions would cause an increase in pressure that would break down the lubrication at the highest part of the lobe like that.
Hmmmmm.Just switched to royal purple 5w20 last year.
Cam and follower replacement.Hmmmmm.
I never liked RP, hope it wasn't the oil that caused this.
That cam is done it needs to be replaced. All the metal that is being worn off that lobe is flowing through the rest of the engine. Be glad you caught it early.
5w-50 won't fix this.
Anything else? This is the RH exhaust cam correct?Hmmmmm.

Follower kit is about $200. This is cheaper than buying them individuallyWow. Surprisingly cheap part cost. Curious OP how many miles you have?
Should only need the 8 followers and 8 lash adjusters right? Total with cam is $454 with some promotion discount buying individually.Follower kit is about $200. This is cheaper than buying them individually
