Seriously. If this guy was invited, I should've been.
I think that's how we all feel. I'm thinking it was less of an invite and more of a media sign-up thing.

Ford really wants to promote the technology of this car. So many IT/general technology focused entities were invited to the LS event that typically don't review cars. This is their affordable halo car and they're doing a masterful job of setting it up as such. The individual product of each "reviewer" varies as much as the talent spread between reporter and "blogger". I'd expect nothing less from the Internet.

But Ford is really accomplishing their goal here to get everyone talking about the engineering they've put into this rather affordable vehicle.

I hope that interview didn't earn him a ride.

As bad as that video is, it got a view of this interesting plate. Bosses had TT, MP and PP designations for the pre-production cars. What the heck is GR?

I saw that. It is an R model, so maybe they shortened GT350R to GR?

I don't like to judge and usually save my negative comments, but I would be offended if someone interviewed me like this. No preparation and noticeable lack of knowledge of the product. If I am given such an opportunity, I would make the most of it and show some effort. In our current direction, this could very well be one of the last NA high revving V8s put on an American car period.

Maybe it's for Gt350R? They don't want to put GTR014...as in the Nissan?

What's more interesting to me is the number. Only 3 places - so 999 max. If they were planning on more than 1000, wouldn't they have done GR0014?

Clearly this can mean anything at this point and I'm sur if they wanted, they would just add an extra 0 of they made more than 999.

There's this one, "VP" which I assume is...prototype for the P. Verifiable Prototype maybe?

I've seen ones with the usual TTxx also.

Edit: Sorry just realized you were asking about the non-R.

Well found this pic and it has the same VP designation

If I'm not mistaken, VP-build cars are validation prototypes. TT is tooling trial (or try-out). Ford has several build levels that go from concept to pre-production, and the acronym soup is tough to keep straight.

IIRC, we built DV-level parts (design validation) that went into VP-build cars. This is early on, but after M1-build cars, which is more proof of concept like for mule vehicles. After DV parts, we built TT-level parts, and then PV-level parts (which go into PP-build cars). But I freely admit to getting this mixed up on more than one occasion...

These cars in the hands of the media are still not technically public release cars. They are owned by Ford and used for these track days or lent out to the media for their reviews.

I would expect the cars in the regular series run for public sale to have just straight chassis numbers. If they just remove the two character prefix values present in all of these pre-prod cars, that gives 5 digits, enough for the rumored 10,000 GT350 and 1,000 R models, plus any added volume beyond 2017 MY.
