I have Waze. I know where the cops are usually :ninja:. I feel pretty cocky at times. Praise be to the FSM!
You can never be 100% sure with Waze as you rely on others to pinpoint locations of where speeding traps are .

I usually do not go over the speed limit or drive aggressively on the hwy but 0-50 from a stop sign or lights are completely different (Driving a loud red car also does not help lol). My new daily commute is going to be on back roads where speed limit keeps changing between 35-45-55 so I just pulled the trigger on a Escort 9500ix. I just did not want to risk anything and this thing probably saved me from a ticket on the way back from bestbuy after I bought it lol.

I wish radar detectors would be legal here. :tsk:

Good to know....note to self, always have bank statement with me at all times. :D
Bank statements? Will the cop laugh because you spent all your money on a Shelby?

I've been lucky, but i did get a ticket for 77 in a 30. Few months ago after all the rain and flooding we had in Houston, i just got my exhaust and wanted to tear into it on a back straight road I've know for years. There was a cop sitting right there hidden in some trees. He asked if i knew how fast i was going, i said i know it wasn't slow, he asked why and i told him the truth about the exhaust. He was nice but i did get the ticket, which is pretty obvious.
Wow, here if you get caught going more than 20 mph over the speed limit they can take your car away. #notworthit

I've been fortunate so far (knocking on wood like crazy). I set the cruise and try not to speed except maybe on an on- or off-ramp.

So I'm still breaking in my new GT350. Just passed 350 miles on my car, felt it was a "special" number and decided to give it a little more than usual. For me, this meant 6k rpm shifts while accelerating onto the freeway.

Of course I had the exhaust on sport mode, next thing I know, flashing blue lights coming up fast from quite a distance behind me. The officer said "really nice car, I know you want to open her up, but I had to pull you over". Well, I got lucky, he let me off with a warning and commented a number of times about it being a very nice car. Now I really do feel humbled and blessed to be able to own my GT350.

Have others had close encounters with the law?
Had to test out my resonator-less exhaust. First overpass, 8k rev, *Whoop whoop*.

Didn't know where it came from, took the next exit out the highway. :ninja:

Do they actually enforce taking cars going 20+ mph over the limit, or do they only go that route if the driver is a habitual criminal.

If they take it every time, that's complete BS.

These confiscation rules are at every level of government and most often don't require the government to prove you committed a crime, its usually up to the individual to prove they weren't breaking the law.

I don't know and I don't want to find out. I agree that current laws are overly harsh and that taking peoples' property should not be allowed.

I think typically the officer will give you a ticket for 19 over unless you are really flagrantly violating such as going 30+ over the speed limit, but I really don't know. People don't typically drive 20+ over the speed limit around here. It's dangerous driving that fast unless you are on a track and whether there's a huge penalty or not we should all know better.

They can also take your car if you are "racing", so another thing to avoid.

Its one thing to take property after due process of law, but thanks to the "war on drugs" there have been a lot of laws allowing confiscation of property without due process. And a lot of these laws do not even evolve drug laws.

In alot of places the police are used as a source of revenue once that happens some of the abuses and civil forfeiture laws make sense. Having a car seized for 20 over or for buying a $5 bag of weed is absurd.

Just look at paying a ticket.

They make it so easy to pay the ticket. Mail, online, Ive even heard of cops taking payment at the time of the stop.

But try to fight the ticket. I been to a place where I would had to take up to 3 days minimum to fight it.

First day to say "I'm not paying it" then they schedule a court appearance

Second day to submit your plea

Third day actual case.

I firmly believe that it is setup this way so people give-up on the process.

most officers down here will not take you to jail or impound the car unless you are being flagrant, disrespectful and dangerous ( weaving or putting your foot in it with other cars around).

I won't say how fast i was going, but in Louisiana, there is a certain multiple of the speed limit in LA that warrants the traffic officer directing you to step out of the car, with your hands up as the first point of protocol. generally, the instruction is given to you over the officer's loudspeaker and said officer is bound by department regulations to have their weapon drawn.

handcuffs generally follow.

I hit that magical speed and surpassed it on my way to the track early one Saturday morning on an empty stretch of highway, just after I got my car.

Thankfully, the officer ran me and was also very interested in the car, as he hadn't seen one yet, and i was not invited to stay the weekend in the local jail.

I did get a ticket for 20 over, which was subsequently dismissed. that interaction was enough for me to remember how stupid it is to act like a hooligan, and at 36, there is literally no reason why i need to do that, especially since i have a garage and membership at a racetrack.

if the officer has chosen to exercise his discretion towards the full limit of the penalty for my choice to act like an idiot, i would have spent 3-4 days in jail, accumulated $3-4K in fines, another $3-4K in legal fees and legitimately about $8-10k in insurance premium increases.

CN: not worth booting it on public roads.

While i do enjoy the onramp scenario, and i do enjoy a few, select back roads with speed limits that should probably be adjusted down, I keep the high speed stuff on the track.
