I am looking for a dress-up aftermarket oil filler cap (not a cap cover, but a full cap) for my 2019 Mustang GT. Ones meeting my desired aesthetics are seemingly only available for Gen 2 Coyotes (in 2015-2017 Mustangs).
I realize the Gen 2 and Gen 3 caps have different upper, outside shapes, but I'm interested about functional and dimensional differences underneath.
Can anyone tell me if a Gen 2 oil cap can be functionally installed on a Gen 3? Both Generations incorporate a 1/4 turn locking feature. Are the diameter, depth of threads, etc. of those generation caps the same? Is there a difference in the seal material, or another feature that is critical to crankcase pressure or emissions? Is there some other design need prohibiting such a swap?
If someone in this forum has successfully made a cross-swap, I'd be interested in hearing that as well.
BTW...I noticed that latter V6 engines seem to have a 1/4 turn locking feature. Has anyone successfully cross-swapped one of those?
Thank you for any insight you have.
