first independent garage was too busy to do any work, 2nd did MOT and looked at the p0024 and said their computer said that meant the timing chain has slipped.. 3rd option was the Dealership. I was joking with a mate in work about how at least the Dealership would have the diagrams and diagnostic charts.... aint so funny now :frown:

this is not as silly / outragous suggestion as it first seems though a MACH 1 (manual of course) was a thought. I also didn't get the 8am phone call to update me on what happened after the diagrams were received. I guess nothing...

You should have got some aluminium valve covers to swap while they had them off - FMS-M-6067-M52S
no need for these and certainly not waiting 3 to 4wks for delivery. I'm more concerned about needing a new valve cover gasket and if they've cracked it open that far might as well replace both VCT's while in there since it's a lot of work to get that far. Esp if they're doing for the shts and giggles cause they actually have no idea what they are doing. Think i'll be looking for proper specialists or just plain old rare as rocking horse sht real mechanics. Assuming of course i actually get the damned car back

good luck with that, mineā€™s been broken for 3 months, no one wants to get involved, Ford is a no go, genuinely donā€™t know what to do anymore, fire may be involved lol

Those covers may be functional but theyā€™re a bit bling for me, Iā€™ve tried to tone down everything

3 months !!
Nice and subtle there Mark, looks functional and menacing
So the problem is on the bank 2 exhaust cam but turns out also bank 1 valve cover is leaking onto the exhaust so in fact fire might be deployed afterall. Sad, very sad.

so got the car back, doesn't feel / sound any better but maybe i'm just overhearing things, see if the error code comes back (on the inlet cam...). Tech support Ford (in Germany) had recommended swapping the VCT solenoids to see if the fault moved cams. No mention of any in-place electrical testing of the components first before cracking the covers off. Utter baws !

checked for error codes after last nights shopping run.............. p0024... if the issue had followed the solenoid swap it'd be p0021 so did Ford actually swap the solenoids or is the issue camshaft related / car loom related. Sigh, big sigh. Have a specialist lined up for next week. scunnered.com

Holy thread revival... Forgot I'd started this a long time ago. Anyhow, date. Friday gone went to a a better garage for vct solenoid fitting as he'd determined previously that the exhaust cam was not responding to ecu commands, electrically it was getting the signals but it just was not returning to desired positioning. So, oem solenoid at the ready he cracked off the valve cover and we got greeted by this.. The question we asked ourselves was, did Ford mark these before of after they supposedly swapped them ha

Anyhow, we fitted new vct to exhaust cam and still some fault code came back after dtc reset. Ran diagnostics from Forscan (he has pro licence) and no suits reported by car. Still stumbles, still p0024 so looks like cam phaser and thats a biggy.
